You can listen to the entire album here.
Filter Anthems for the Damned
Listen to the entire album at imeem.
Local H 12 Angry Months
Couldn’t find a whole album stream, but you can listen to the new single at their myspace.
Old 97’s Blame It On Gravity
I never would have had these guys on my radar if I hadn’t seen them at SXSW. Check out the album stream here. (If you don’t already have Rhapsody installed, you’ll have to do that before you can listen.) They’ll be starting their tour on 5/30 (SD date is 6/20), more info on their myspace.
Safety Suit Like Left To Go
I actually heard the single “Someone Like You” on XM and dug it a lot. A band to watch as far as radio play goes.
We Are Scientists Brain Trust Mastery
Come on, you gotta like guys that write songs titled “Chick Lit”. I dug on their first album a lot, so I’m definitely getting this one.
Impacting on radio:
(These are for the Triple A format instead of the usual Alt Rock format, since my total time listening to alt rock radio has been zilch in the last few weeks.)
Adele - Chasing Pavements
This single already was a hit in the UK.
Tristan Prettyman - Madly
This has already hit the top 20 on the Triple A charts.

From First To Last self-titled
They’ll be bringing their screamo to all the kids at Warped this summer. Their myspace only has snippets of tracks (lame!), but they have an imeem player with full tracks.
The Long Blondes Couples
This was released in the UK last month - I haven’t been able to find it, so yay for the US release. You might remember that I discovered this band last year at one of my Good Records outings.
No Age Nouns
You can listen to the entire album on their myspace.
The Republic Tigers Keep Color
This band is from KC (where I happen to be this week) and according to their myspace are having a record listening party in KC on Tuesday. I may have to check it out.
((sounder)) Good Things Come and Go Like Bad Things
I missed their record release show in SD last week - boo. But I’ve listened to tracks here and I like.
Impacting songs:
All Time Low - Dear Maria, Count Me In
Pop punk for the younger leaning alt rock stations.
Coldplay - Violet Hill
Most added this week on alt rock stations with 750 spins on 38 stations.
The Matches - Wake The Sun
The Matches are pretty solid live, but they are still waiting for their break on the radio.
I made the trek up to Alpine to check out honeyhoney at the V Lounge in the Viejas casino. I had no idea what to expect as far as the layout so I was surprised when I got there that the lounge was a section in the casino that has a bunch of luxe couches and a small stage. Odd as that may be, it totally worked. We sat in the back of the lounge at the bar (duh, always at the bar) which still gave us a pretty good view. I’m not sure what the capacity was, I’m thinking no more than 75, but I could be wrong because I am not great at crowd estimating. As far as the crowd was concerned, it was comprised of Radio Sophie listeners - so a lot of women in the 36-49 age bracket with either their significant other or a chick friend.
So I had seen honeyhoney in their full band incarnation, but this time, they were unplugged with just Suzanne Santo on vocals (and banjo and violin) and Ben Jaffe on guitar and a small drum, along with their touring bass player (whose name I have forgotten though Suzanne introduced her a few times.) They started off with “Give Yourself to Me” from their EP Loose Boots and then went straight into “Little Toy Guns” which is the radio single. Everyone knew “Little Toy Guns” so that was a good way to get the crowd’s attention before heading into three songs of new material. Then they did “Thursday Night” which is kinda a slower, sexy song with lyrics like since it’s just us two tonight, I think that we should screw tonight. Suzanne almost seemed embarassed to say the f word when she was singing it - very endearing. Between songs, Suzanne and Ben were talking up a storm - Ben was really excited about getting to use a cordless mic. Ben introduced the next song as a Smashing Pumpkins cover and I mentally ran through some Pumpkins songs that have violin to guess what they would be doing. I was thinking “Tonight Tonight” but instead they did an awesome version of “1979”. The rest of the set was new songs (with the exception of “David” ) - the standout of those was “Not For Long”. After the set, they talked to a bunch of the crowd and happily posed for photos and what not. A good show and definitely worth the trek up to Alpine.
If you want to get an idea of what they sound like live, check out their performance in-studio at Radio Sophie here.
This isn’t news by any means, but Idolator posted this today and I was just talking about how cool this was after I saw it multiple times at the P@TD show so have at it…
If you walked into the Casbah last night during Does It Offend You, Yeah’s set, you would have thought that you were in a dance club. The crowd was totally digging the Brit dance rock. Morgan Quaintance (vocals, synths, guitar) and James Rushent (bass, vocals) (along with Dan Coop on synths and Rob Bloomfield on drums), wowed all of us with their stage antics and of course, their charming Brit accents. Morgan and James switch off on vocals and they are the perfect foil to each other. Morgan has a mellow but happy presence, whereas James is the more intense one.

DIOYY ripped through a dancetastic set - playing the gems from their recently released album You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Yourself Into. I didn’t keep a set list - it was either photos and dancing or take notes. Photos and dancing won that battle. Some of the standout songs were “With a Heavy Heart (I Regret to Inform You)”, “Attack of the 60 Ft Lesbian Octopus”, and my personal favorite (which they played early in the set), “Let’s Make Out”.
I took a bunch of photos, which you can check out here.
P.S. Go check them out on hype. You dancypants peeps will LOVE it.
P.P.S. Just announced - DIOYY will be touring with NIN for a few dates this summer. Awesome!
The winter book came out yesterday. So who came out on top in the battle of the alt rock stations? XTRA by a sliver. You can check out the deets here.
The other interesting radio news of note is the return of Chris Cantore. As announced on his myspace blog, he will be returning on Monday 5/5. The twist is that he won’t be on a terrestrial radio station, but on some newfangled broadband station X1 FM. I haven’t quite figured it all out from trolling on their site, but the music format is what they are calling ““Euro Alternative format“ - “a blend of adult alternative rock, electronica dance, pop”. Interesting. Cantore will be on air weekdays from 8-12. I’m definitely keeping my eye on this development.
Lyn is always rawking to the song in her head, which she would be happy to sing to you. Just ask.
Music posted is for sampling purposes and is only available for a limited time. If you like what you hear, support the artist and buy the album or go to a show.
Hello Lyn! I am indeed the person holding the nada surf set list in that picture. Just want to say really great pictures, as it was definitely a night to remember and a night to brag about, haha. hopefully i’ll see you around taking pictures at other concerts!!
