Radio in the Sky
When I fly home from Dallas, I usually get stuck on an MD80, but I have found a flight (#1429) on a 757 so that will be my flight of choice for now on. Flying on a 757 means entertainment options. And I was happy to see that the indie/alternative station was sponsored by Paste Magazine. Here’s the playlist (with my commentary in italics.)
Honey Honey - Little Toy Gun
You know I’m into this band, so it was good to have them start of the set with their poppy goodness.
George Stanford - My Own Worst Enemy
She & Him - Why Do You Let Me Stay Here
She & Him - Take It Back
Two She & Him songs are sure to suck people in.
What Made Milwaukee Famous - Sultan
Hearing this out of context just makes me feel like they are on the verge of breaking big.
All Time Low - Dear Maria, Count Me In
Of course, the 16 yr old in me loved this song.
The Cult - Fire Woman
An interesting “classic” alt rock song to put into the mix.
Eagle Seagull - I Don’t Know If People Have Hated Me, But I Have Hated People
This was the beginning of a group of artists/songs that I had no clue about.
Tulsa - Shaker
Jon Peter Lewis - Break the Silence
El Perro Del Mar - Glory To the World
AA Bondy - There’s a Reason
The Annuals - Sore
I think this is the first album cut that comes even close to what they sound like live.
Anna Ternheim - To Be Gone
Hayden - Where and When
Noa - Marching Band
Lisa Hannigan - Last Leaf
The OaKs - Two Calls (of Dietrich Bonhoeffer)
Cloud Cult - When Water Comes To Life
I liked this one. I should probably buy this album.
On The Surface - Spaces
Sharon Gosler - Shine On Me
The Watson Twins - How Am I to Be
I dug them on the Jenny Lewis record, but everything I hear from their forthcoming album is just meh.
Lush - Sweetness and Light
The other “classic” song in the set was a good one.
British Sea Power - Waving Flags
I really dug this album and always enjoy hearing songs from it on my radio (no, not terrestrial radio. Slacker Indie Hits of course...)
Kenna - Out Of Control (State of Emotion)
Interesting choice as this song really made its push on radio last summer.
Panic At the Disco - Nine In the Afternoon
Nothing wrong with a little Panic at the Disco.
Nada Surf - Weightless
This fit right in after PATD. Really.
The Gutter Twins - The Stations
I like anything with Mark Lanegan.
Shawn Mullins - All In My Head (Live From Paste)
Headlights - January (Live From Paste)
They stuck a couple of live songs from their Paste studio sessions at the end. Works for me.
They change selections every month, if I play my cards right, this will become a monthly feature.

Santa Cruz and San Jose
I was in San Jose for work last week but still managed to play turista for a bit.
On Sunday, we went to Santa Cruz. This is the view of the Boardwalk from the Wharf.
I was in downtown San Jose a lot because my co-worker who had the car stayed there. Both the Museum of Art and the Museum of Technology were photo-worthy.
We went the Winchester Mystery House but didn’t have time to take the tour before we had to leave for the airport. I still managed to get some photos.

My Tour de Festival: Voodoo in NOLA
I had briefly mentioned heading to ACL this year, but my schedule works out better to go to NOLA for Voodoo and then back to Austin for SXSW next year. So the Voodoo headliners were announced today - REM, NIN, and STP. Of course, I am excited about NIN. And excited about getting back to NOLA in general. Festival dates are 10/24-26 if anyone wants to join me.

Graceland is the Awesome
I’m in Memphis and I got to visit Graceland today. I thought it was awesome. But I am a geek with an affection for old houses and what not. Some choice photos…
This was the living room.
This was my favorite room - the basement. He had three tvs there so he could watch all three network’s evening news shows at the same time.
There is a ton of memorabilia. I love the jumpsuits and the gold records.
I couldn’t take photos of the graves in the Meditiation Garden. (In addition to Elvis, his parents and brother are there.) But I loved the stained glass in the walls behind the graves.
View all of my geeky Graceland photos here.

Cross Your Fingers
I’m attempting to fly home today. (I was supposed to fly home yesterday, but my flight was cancelled on Thursday so it was fine to just stay another day. ) I actually am coming back on Monday, but I have too much going on this weekend plus I only packed for a couple of days. So I really need to come home. Even if it is just for a day and a half.
Cross your fingers for me.

Earning My Road Warrior Stripes
I don’t consider myself a “road warrior” because I know way too many people who travel even more than I do. But today, I felt like I earned my stripes. I was one of the 100,000 people affected by the cancellation of American Airlines flights. There is only one flight from SAN to DFW on American that does not use the MD80’s. I have to give props to my work’s awesome travel department. They found me a confirmed seat on a flight from SNA (that’s John Wayne airport for those of you who aren’t geeky about airport codes.) So I had to drive to the OC this morning to catch my flight. I didn’t want to leave my car there, so I got a rental car at SAN and drove the 90 miles to SNA in record time. Woo hoo. Hope these meetings that I am here for are worth the trouble.

I Would If I Could
Things I would write about if I wanted to write:
- Marco Collins’ blog post about why radio is becoming less relevant every day.
- Chris Cantore’s reply to Marco’s post
- Debating on if I should go to Bamboozle Left solo or if I should just skip it. (Damn you Jimmy Eat World and Paramore for not having a SD tour date)
- How much I love the She and Him album (anyone want to go to L.A. on 4/29 to see them?)
- How I am counting down the days to Hawaii already and it’s still eight months away
Sigh. Maybe I’ll feel like writing at the airport tomorrow. If not, see you back on Cali time.
