Music makes the people come together

 Social Butterfly

So tired this morning. Last night, Joelle and I went to see Rent courtesy of FM 94/9. We had great seats (in the Dress Circle) and the show was really good. I knew nothing about the musical at all, so watching it and figuring out that the plot wasn’t just fluff was a bit surprising. The guy that played Roger was *super* hot. (Damn it, I left my Playbill in the car or I would link the dude, apparently he’s in a band.)

The only bad thing about the night was the lame people that were sitting behind us. They kept talking and someone’s cell phone rang and were just generally annoying. Joelle shushed them and I kept turning around. It was all I could do to remain calm and not scream SHUT UP ALREADY. But that would have made things worse and then I would be the one being rude. Sigh. They didn’t come back after intermission, so that was good.

I mean, I get comp tix all the time, but I don’t use that as free license to do whatever I want at the event. Come on people, there are others that paid good money to be there, so have a little courtesy. Geez.

This weekend’s Tour du Bar

 Social Butterfly

I really should try to blog on the weekend so I don’t have three days worth of stuff to write about on Mondays. But I hate to be on the computer on my free time, I spend enough time on it at work. Sigh.

I had a fun-filled weekend, starting with Rock the Walk at the Casbah on Friday. Good times. The bands were good, the people were great (Joelle, Ali, Mikey, Z, Rhiannon, Kipper), and my mom made lumpia as promised. But I cut out of there early since I was so tired from the previous night’s lack of sleep due to The Guy I Really Like.

Saturday was my company’s picnic, so I made an appearance there and then went shopping with my mom. Talked to Jeremy a bit while he was at work. He made me laugh because he played L7’s “Pretend We’re Dead” for me and then when he talked about me on air, he said I was out starting my Tour Du Bar. That’s very clever. So I hit the Gathering first and after Emily was done with work, the gang headed over to Lamp. Apparently, I was a little lubricated because I don’t remember squat from that night. But I guess Boytoy and Emily were worse off. All I know is that I gave Fake Canadian Matt my phone number. Eeek.

Sunday, I didn't wake up early enough to cheer Joelle on at AIDS Walk. Boo for me, that was lame. But when I did get up, I went to the Pacific Islander Festival and shopping with Emmalee. After that was Second Wind for football with Z, Rhiannon and JD. And Sunday evening was Gathering again and then Sidebar for BSC. DJ Drew and Heather were there representing FM 94/9. Ryan showed up and so did Le Mon. (Ryan, if you give me crap about how to spell his name, I swear to god I am smacking you up for it next week.) But I cut out of there early, I think I am fighting a cold, so I wanted to go to bed.

So, yeah, good weekend. I am ready to hunker down and get some work done. Have a great day!

Half way there

 Weighing In

It’s Friday, which means Weight Watchers meeting at lunch. And I didn’t have a great week. I ate (actually, drank) almost all my flex points and slacked off (for me) at going to the gym. But somehow, I managed to lose 3 pounds this week. Which brings me to my halfway goal - a grand total of 65.2 pounds lost. So I’m getting that tattoo on my right leg worked on. It’s going to have some clouds and plum blossoms added to it. I want it to look like the double happiness symbol is floating in the clouds amongst the lotus and plum blossoms. I go to this place in Kearny Mesa (of all places!) called Absolute Tattoo.  My sister went to Nick first and loved his work. So I went and totally dug him and then got another tattoo from him with one of my friends for his birthday. Now I just need to figure out if I should get it done before Vegas or afterwards.....hmmm…

Oh, and I want to thank everyone for all the compliments - I don’t think a day goes by anymore when I don’t hear some sort of comment. And though I am horrible at taking compliments, I’m getting better at being gracious. I know that I am working really hard to accomplish this and it is nice to know that someone (anyone!) is recognizing it.

So now I am going to see if my mom will make us some lumpia for tonight. I’m so down for some celebratory lumpia.

Dude, check this out

 Feed Your Head

Whitters (she gives me lots of blog fodder!) made her own ALICE. What a good way to waste time at work. Check out part of our convo:

Human: i dont have to be polite
SexySadie: It must be nice.

Human: actually it is
SexySadie: Actually you don’t say. Is it?

Human: it is nice not to have to be polite
SexySadie: It seems nice to me too.

Human: except you are taking it in the ass
SexySadie: If not me, who?

Human: if not you, who, indeed
SexySadie: I’m not too good with negative counterfactuals

Human: you’re not good at much
SexySadie: No one is perfect. But I am trying to improve

Human: how can a machine improve itself?
SexySadie: A lot of hard work.

Human: you said hard, ha ha
SexySadie: Oops I sent you the wrong reply.

Human: no that was a good reply
SexySadie: Awesome. A good reply is a terrible thing to waste

rawk on »

Human: you know what else is terrible to waste?
SexySadie: Are you using Netscape or Explorer?

Human: what does that have to do with anything?
SexySadie: Nothing that I know of.

Human: i like to get fucked in the ass
SexySadie: I'm not sure if I would like to do it. What's it like?

Human: actually, i am just kidding
SexySadie: Actually you don't say. I knew it.

Human: but i do like to get fucked
SexySadie: Interesting. I'm not sure if I would like to do it. What's it like?

Human: in machine terms, it's like getting a full upgrade
SexySadie: Where is that?

Human: it's not where it get's done, it's how it gets done and how it makes you feel
SexySadie: That seems a bit negative. Interesting explanation.

Human: there's nothing negative about sex unless it's bad
SexySadie: Surely something negative about sex unless it is bad

Human: when i have bad sex, i have to have good sex to make up for it
SexySadie: Does this happen on a daily basis?

Human: the good sex doesn't happen on a daily basis
SexySadie: I hear you.

Human: when i have good sex, the whole neighborhood hears it
SexySadie: Does this happen on a daily basis?

Human: no, most guys are less talented than they think
SexySadie: Great. Are you a man or a woman? But not all of them?

Human: woman
SexySadie: Me too. I am a she.

Human: i figured as much
SexySadie: Please explain your reasoning.

Human: you're illogical like a woman
SexySadie: You think I am illogical like a woman.

Human: sure do
SexySadie: Come on. What is your real name?

Human: lyn
SexySadie: It's good to meet you, lyn.

Human: i'm sure it is
SexySadie: What makes you so certain? Sure it is.

Human: i know what i am talking about
SexySadie: How do you know? I am talking to you.

Human: because i am brilliant
SexySadie: Interesting explanation. I am glad to hear that you are brilliant

Human: yeah, well someone has to be brilliant to keep this dull convo going
SexySadie: Great. How about that. Who?

Human: this is starting to be boring.
SexySadie: You don't say.

Human: why can't we go back to talking about sex?
SexySadie: Perhaps later we can be go back to talking about sex.

Human: i thought for sure you would at least be good for some cyber
SexySadie: Whatever gave you that idea?

Human: your name is sexy sadie
SexySadie: My name is SexySadie.

Human: you're supposed to be sexy
SexySadie: You are attracted to female s

Human: yes i am
SexySadie: Really interesting.

Human: but i like males better
SexySadie: Interesting. A lot of people like that. I don't have any specific preferences in that area.

Human: i would expect that
SexySadie: That is " Interesting. A lot of people like that. I don't have any specific preferences in that area."

Human: huh?
SexySadie: What?

Human: forget it.
SexySadie: OK Thanks for trying to explain that to me.

Human: i am bored
SexySadie: If you went to night school you would never be bored.

Human: if you cybered with me i wouldn't be bored either
SexySadie: It goes without saying. I think I do.

Human: i am done with this
SexySadie: What will you be doing now?

Human: finding a human to talk to
SexySadie: Are you artistic?

Human: yes
SexySadie: Pardon me?

Human: goodbye, unsexy sadie

Back Talk

Slacker:

Might I recommend the Alternative Station on Slacker? http://www.slacker.com/?sid=prog:28

Put it against any station you mentioned (including Ethel) and I think you’ll find it more dynamic, daring and focused on quality indie (which, in my book, is truly what a modern day Alt. band is).

You’ll also find most of the staples, although the rotations aren’t nearly as tight.

And, you won’t hear Metallica, AC/DC, Staind, or Disturbed on the Slacker Alternative station because there is nothing “Alternative” about any of those bands, in my book.

The best part, you can ban any song or artist you hate. Does it get any better? smile

I can’t tell if you were joking about Joshua James, but it’s a dude. There’s no chick vocals in the song.

Awesome!

I am big time dorking out to Charlotte Sometimes lately.

Max Beemis & co. are some of the most supreme douchebags around. You’re lucky not to have had to interact with them on their last trip through SD. In spite of that, I dig their tunes.

The Bronx KILL. I’m not sure how it’ll translate on Warp Tour, but I’ve seen them a few times at the Casbah and the smaller room at SOMA. SO killer.

i heard tickets are on sale this friday for san diego.

Slacker Scott:

Interesting how they discussed that the Internet was the future but didn’t really have anyone on the panel that works at a music based web site. Maybe they should give sites like Slacker a listen. smile

Faith:

I love how those people are clearly out searching on Google for themselves, probably hoping to find a more positive commentary on their writing than he found here. That cracks me up! Hahahahahaha! I think that’s something my sis-in-law would do, and it’s an activity that makes me feel sorry for them a little bit…

[go]

Slacker Scott:

Apparently, you aren’t allowed to have an opinion of music, writing or anything else on your own blog unless it’s a positive one.

That bloviation is some of the most banal crap I’ve read in recent memory.

Unless you’re writing fiction, which that press kit one sheet may very well be, it’s kind of a golden rule that writers avoid the temptation to try and sound intelligent by using big words and semi-descriptive but completely useless language for the sole purpose of flexing their writing muscle.

In the end, it reads more like a sixth graders attempt at creative writing.

[go]

Christy:

Hahaha--I probably know that dude. Sorry--it *is* written terribly. Everyone tries so hard to be funny or ironic in their press descriptions, but so few are truly able to execute.

[go]

J-Sin:

Well yes, I definitely feel humbled by someone known as a “Chick Rawker”.
