Thoughts on a Thursday
I know, it’s been slow around here. But there’s reasons for that. I have been super busy at work because are moving offices this week. I have worked for the same company for seven and a half years and for seven of these years, we’ve occupied three floors of the big brick building you see when driving on the 163 onto the 8. Actually if you take the exit to 8 east from south 163 during business hours, I can see you drive by. My window faces the freeway. Over the last seven years, I have seen a bunch of car wrecks and other fun freeway activity. And I loved working in Mission Valley because it’s close to everything. But our new office is sweet. Our company bought 2 buildings in Kearny Mesa on Balboa Avenue. Which makes my commute really easy. Two miles away from Tierrasanta. It’s only 6 stoplights away. So that’s cool.
But try cleaning up seven years of your work life. Argh. I threw so much stuff away. Scary how much of a pack rat I am. But I fit all of my work life into 4 boxes. Now I just have to take 3 boxes of stuff home. Mostly holiday decorations. Our office really gets into the holidays. I am sure we’ll start decorating for Halloween on October 1st. Hopefully, I’ll be unpacked by then.
In other news…
I went to Lamp with Boytoy last night. Needed to get out and be social. I guess I wasn't my talkative self last night. But eventually whatever stick was up my ass eased out and it was all good. More of the Boytoy and
Russ bonding. Russ made Boytoy drink Yukon Jack shots with him. Ouch is all I can say to that. I got to sing a couple of songs - Alanis Morrisette's "Head Over Feet" and Olivia Newton-John's "Magic". Those were fun to sing. I haven't sang either one of those songs in a long time. And it was funny to point out that "Magic" was released before Boytoy was even born. Ha. I was hoping more people would show up because I need to finish this damn roll of film. But I did get a picture of Fake Canadian Matt and his roomie, Will. I need to start working on a new collage. I have enough pictures from this year's nightlife there to get started.
Oh, and speaking of fake Canadians, I just had to laugh when I opened my email from House of Blues Concerts today. It was my pre-sale notification for Avril Lavigne's show. Oh yeah, I'm all over that. Not.

Here I come to save the day!
Because I have nothing better to do and I saw this at Whitter’s, here’s a meme.
You’re a Coast Guard helicopter pilot who has rushed to the aid of a capsized boat with ten people aboard. You can use the aerial harness to pull them up one by one. The boat is sinking fast, though, and you know you won’t get to all of them in time. In which order do you pull them to safety?
1. President of the United States (just a president, not a specific one)
2. Kindergarten teacher with twenty years experience.
3. Young mother of three.
4. Grandfather of ten.
5. Police officer.
6. Eight-year-old child.
7. Rhodes Scholar.
8. Pregnant woman.
9. Doctor working on a cure for his own terminal cancer.
10. Your best friend.
So, in which order (ex. 7, 4, 10) would you pull them out? Why did you choose that order?
10. Your best friend - I have had to live without him in my life and I know that my life is infinitely better with him in it. So he's definitely first.
3. Young mother of three - I can't imagine not having my mom, so a mom with three kidlets? Definitely a priority.
8. Pregnant woman - you're saving two lives here.
6. Eight-year-old child - because I believe the children are our future.
2. Kindergarten teacher with twenty years experience - soft spot for the educators since I almost was one. Plus, it takes a special person to deal with the kindergarteners.
4. Grandfather of ten - makes the list but a lower priority because if you're a grandfather of ten, I am assuming you've had a full life.
9. Doctor working on a cure for his own terminal cancer - he's gonna die anyways, why make an effort?
1. President of the United States (just a president, not a specific one) - what? the secret service didn't save him/her? I'm not saving his/her ass. Especially if I didn't vote for him/her.
7. Rhodes Scholar - eh. Aren't there new scholars every year?
5. Police officer - still not over the amount of bad cops out there. But I would move this one higher if he was super hot - maybe just to get some later.
You guys can figure out the psychology behind those choices. Have a great day!

3 days of stuff
Busy weekend. Friday, I went to Kira’s and we had my famous Guiltless Fried Rice. Yummy. Her place is so cute. But I was tired from Thursday’s excesses, so it was an early night. I didn’t even talk to Travis all night. Then on Saturday, I had a meeting and then lunch with the managers in my department. That was alright. Typical Saturday errands and then it was off to the Gathering. Emily is back, so my sister and her boyfriend met me there for dinner and drinks.
Sunday was busy. First week of football. Oh yeah! I met Z and Rhiannon at CJ’s to watch the last bit of the morning games. It was packed in there because Second Wind’s satellite was down. Ali and her man were there, too. CJ’s is going to be the place for Sunday football. A pint of hefeweizen for $2.75? Oh yeah. Ali bailed after her Browns won but Z, Rhiannon, and I stayed until halftime of the afternoon games. Then home for a nap.
Sunday night, I went to Gathering and was planning on going to the Keane show at the Brick by Brick. Well, I got to BxB and it was sold out. Oh well. So I went to Sidebar and hung with the BSC'ers (DJ Drew, Heather, Maria, Matt, and Ryan) and then left to hang at Lamp with Boytoy. Lamp was dead so I sang a bunch. Yipee.
Oh yeah...I just checked how I did in the football pool and fantasy for the week. I went 10-4 for the week and kicked ass at Fantasy - 100 points. I can't wait to hear what Romey has to say about the first week of football.

2 reasons why I am the happiest chick in the world today
Just got back from my WW meeting. I am so stoked. I did really lose weight while I was on vacation. 4.8 lbs. to be exact, for a total of 60.2. That’s totally awesome. I am really close to one of my milestone goals. I’d better get that tattoo drawing together because it looks like I’ll be getting it done within the next few weeks. Maybe when I get back from Vegas.
When I got back to my desk, I opened up the package that I received today. I thought it was the lunchbox I ordered from the Donut. But it wasn’t. No, even better. Mark, who lives in Virginia (who I know from my early days on the net and have never met in real life), sent me a whole bunch of stuff off my Amazon Wish List. And I’m not talking about little stuff, he got me all three seasons of Alias. And both Kill Bills. And Heathers. And best of the Pixies (the CD and DVD). And the best thing of all is the Cure’s Top CD. I can listen to Bird Mad Girl anytime I want! And that makes me really happy.
So here is my very public thank you. Mark, I can’t even begin to tell you how much I appreciate this stuff. But it isn’t just the stuff, I appreciate you. A gazillion cyber kisses to you. One of these days, you can collect on them in real life.
Boys, Boys, Boys
Dude. Despite a severe lack of sleep on Wednesday night (work related, unfortunately), I still went out last night. Boytoy is officially sucked into the Black Hole that is the Lamp. He went on Wednesday and I called him last night to see if he wanted to do an encore. Of course he did. So we got there right around the same time and it was busy. But I found us a couple of seats at the bar and the night proceeded as a typical Lamp night should. Not a lot of people were singing so I got to sing a bunch. Cool. And then everyone started showing up - Tattoo Dude, Fake Canadian Matt, Russ and Mike (one of Russ’ best friends from high school who is really cool). I had a lot of interesting conversations with all the boys. Russ and Mike are playing rotisserie and they were talking about their teams. They were like, “You play fantasy? You should play with us!” Um, no I shouldn’t.
Fake Canadian Matt is cracking me up. He was wearing his t-shirt inside out. What a dork. So I teased him that he did it on purpose so girls would talk to him. Yeah, that's it.
And Boytoy. He is killing me. He's all excited that Russ talked to the bouncer about getting the exemption for cover on the weekends. Paying cover at the Lamp on the weekends is ridiculous - especially for regulars. And I have had words with that bouncer about paying cover, so I have been on the exemption list for a while now. It was pissing Boytoy off that the bouncer charges him cover and doesn't charge me or Emily. Oh please. We have been going there forever, we deserve the exemption. But I am glad that Boytoy is in the "in crowd" now.
Okay, that's it. Work is calling.....

Are You Ready for some Football?
Today is the opening day of the 2004 NFL season. Oh yeah. Every year, I join the football pool at work. One year, I won over $900 from winning the pool. Of course, the guys at work hadn’t realized how much of a sports freak I am. At the time, I was listening to sports talk radio 24/7. They had no chance. Then I think they thought it was a fluke. Well, the next season, I tied for second place and won about $300. But last season, I was really uneven. I only won $100 the whole season. A major change in the San Diego sports radio market (damn Clear Channel, yet again) and the crappy signal that ESPN 800 transmits in SD made it nearly impossible for me to listen to all the sports talk that I love.
Thanks to John Lynch and the Mighty 1090, it’s on again. Sure, Scott and BR are total homers and I can’t stand Philly Billy. But Scott and BR make me laugh and when they aren’t talking about the Chargers, they actually have good opinions. I also stream ESPN radio - Mike and Mike in the morning are really good. And of course, there’s Romey. He’s the reason why I got addicted to sports radio in the first place.
So the joke around the office is that everyone is contributing to my retirement fund. We play on
My Game Picks - just the games straight up and any ties are broken by the Monday night game total points. Easy enough.
And good old Zach peer pressured me into playing rotisserie. I have never played fantasy before...but this should be fun. Z set it to draft players automatically and I am pretty happy I picked up Daunte Culpepper as my QB and my boy Terrell Owens as one of my WR. Yeah.
So my Super Bowl prediction? Eagles and the Colts. My Niners are going to tank so I am by default an Eagles fan this season. I've lived there and since TO is there, I gotta root for him. And any team that can stick the hurt to Dallas is a team I am pulling for. So saith the Sports Chick.
And I want to know who else is geeked up for the season. Give me your predictions for the Super Bowl. I'll think of some prize for whomever ends up guessing both right. Cause I'm cool like that.

Back to the grind
I am so glad to be back. Even if I am at work already and have 211 emails to go through.
When I got back on Saturday night, it was like I never left. Talked to Jeremy (and he played me X before he got off air) and then went to Kelly’s Pub and Lamp with Boytoy and Emily. Sunday, I went to BSC and Lamp with Joe. And last night, I went to see Sean and Ali at Blarney Stone (and Joelle was there...nice surprise).
So...yeah. The next few weeks are going to be crazy. We are moving our office (closer to my house) in two weeks and I have a bunch of social stuff and shows (Keane, 94/9’s show, Pixies, Rock the Walk) planned. And before I know it, I will be in Vegas with Karaoke Heather for her birthday. Life is good.
