Another day, another show
I didn’t end up shopping after my doctor’s appointment. I blew off some steam by taking a 3.5 mile walk and listening to Jimmy Eat World’s “Bleed American”. When I got home, Travis had called and left me a vm. I was hoping that it was because he got comps to Death Cab For Cutie show at Soma . So I called him back and he did get tix. Cool.
So I went to the gym and had dinner and then rolled over to OB to get Travis. We went early because he wanted to see Pretty Girls Make Graves. They are from Seattle, where Travis lived before he moved here, so he had seen them before and wanted to check it out. Good call on his part because they were good. Really good when they were rawking out.
And then Death Cab. I saw them play at the Open Air Theatre in September for FM 94/9’s show and thought they sounded good then. So I had high expectations for this show. I was not disappointed.
We planted ourselves by the sound guys, which is Travis’ preferred place to hang during a show. I get that, because it always sounds better where the sound guys are because they are tuning everything to what they hear. I noticed the set list sitting on the sound board, so I got to see what they were going to play beforehand. Cool. They played six songs from their latest album Transatlanticism.
They started off with "New Year" and did "Title and Registration" a few songs later. Travis loves "Title and Registration", so he was stoked. The rest of the set was good, except during "Expo '86" and "Lightness", the sound was a bit muddled. They ended their set with "Tiny Vessels" (which is my favorite track from the album) and then "The Sound of Settling". Nice. And I asked the sound guy for the set list after the show, but he denied me. He told me that he wrote notes on it, so he couldn't give it up because he needed it for the rest of the shows. I *knew* I should have copied the list into my cell during the show. Oh well.
After the show, we debated on going to get a drink, but we were both tired and I think I am still detoxing from Sunday night. So I just dropped him off and went home. Which is fine. We had a good time (albeit mellow) and I got my Travis fix in for the week. Hooray.
And now I need to get to work. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Shoe Schedule for the week
It’s Wednesday and I realized that I am wearing yet another pair of shoes today. See, during the summer, I tend to wear one pair of sandals unless I am wearing the flip flops. This summer, it was a pair of Bandolino strappy wedge sandals. I wore them everywhere - even when walking 5 miles a day on vacation. Travis was always amazed when I wore those sandals to a show. “I can’t believe you can stand around for hours in those and still walk back to the car without your feet killing you.” I’m going to be sad when I officially retire those, because I can’t wear last year’s sandals next summer. As if.
So it’s officially not summer anymore, and I have a whole closet full of shoes that are calling to me. Monday, it was high heeled black lace ups. Yesterday, it was square toed slingbacks. Today, Franco Sarto ankle boots with a skinny heel and stitching up the back. Tomorrow will be the 9 West grey and black heels to match the skirt I will probably wear. And Friday, my silk Chinese shoes. The Chinese shoes I would normally not buy (or wear) because they don’t have a heel. (And I love my heels. Because they do the same thing that the cute undies do. Rawr. ) But they are cute, and satisfy my love for Asian designed stuff, so they are in the closet.
And I do get bonus opportunities to wear other pairs. If I go to a show tonight, I think it will have to be the Etienne Aigner mid calf boots with a small heel. Unless I wear red, then it will have to be the red leather loafers. So many choices, what’s a girl to do? My standard answer to that would be....buy more shoes!!! You can never have too many pairs. Maybe I can stop by the mall on the way back from the doctor’s office. Nothing like a new pair of shoes to help bring me out of a funk.
Oh, and the best blog I’ve looked at while on Blogexplosion? Manolo’s Shoe Blog. Someone more in love with shoes than I am. Which says a lot.
I’ve got your conspiracy right here
Because I really needed to laugh this morning, I took this quiz found at Whitter’s:
Which American Hating Minority Are You?
I am a Conspiracy Nut
And I know I said I wasn't going to talk about politics. But my mom just told me I voted for the devil and I'm going to hell with the rest of them. WTF? Thanks, Mom, I'll see your judgemental ass in hell next to Osama.

The last word
I take this voting thing pretty seriously. I haven’t missed an election since I turned 18. And I am one of those voters that reads the voter guide and agonizes over all the candidates and every Yes and No. So last night, The Guy I Really Like and I went over all the propositions and he told me how he was voting and why. I am happy to report that we agreed on most of the propositions, which is a good thing. I don’t mind disagreements between friends about politics. But I think it’s hard to not be on the same page with the person you are in a relationship with. Like I need one more thing to make my love life more complicated, you know?
So I voted at lunch. And I watched CNN while I was at home. I like to listen to exit poll interviews. People always want to justify why they voted for whomever. I think that is pretty interesting.
But I am pretty done with this whole election thing. Not just the media coverage, but all the political blogs out there. I don’t mind a little bit of politics when reading blogs, but I was surprised at how many out there are completely devoted to politics. When I was trolling Blogexplosion, it seemed like every other blog was a political blog. Boring.
I want to fast forward to knowing who won, so we can get on with it. I’m done with the mudslingling and the ads in the mail and the billboards and signs and all election related crap.
And rest assured, these are my last words on the subject. Because, like my quiz results pointed out, I write about my life. And this chick wants to have a meaningful conversation about shoes or boys, not the state of the world. Okay? Good. Glad we are clear on that.
Happy Birthday Joelle!
Hey, the mistress of the blogosphere, Joelle, who also happens to be the most popular person on the internet is celebrating her birthday today! Go wish her a good one. And if you see the UPS guy in her neighborhood, tell him to hurry up and deliver that Amazon package that I sent for her. Thanks.
P.S. Go vote!!!
