A foodie quiz

 Quiz Me

I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the old Weight Watchers recipe cards from the 70’s - they are absolutely scary but kind of funny, too. You can take a look at them here.

So there’s a quiz on Quizilla!

What Weight Watchers recipe card from 1974 are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

fish tacos
You are Fish 'Tacos.' You might think you're
exotic and worldly-wise, but in reality you're
just a bunch of crap on toast. Repeat after
me: 'just because you put something in
quotation marks doesn't make it so.' And
'taco' isn't Spanish for 'toast.'

A bunch of crap on toast? Yep, that's me.

Every Day is Like Sunday

 Social Butterfly

Sunday is my favorite day of the week. I try to get all my errands done on Saturday so that Sunday is for me. And it always starts off well as I always talk to Travis before I go to bed in the wee hours after my Saturday night. Then I get up around 10 and go on a long walk - usually around 3 miles. After some lunch, I head out to catch football. This season, it’s been Second Wind with Z and Rhiannon. Z is really fun to watch football with. I know this because I have been watching sporting events with him since he came home from Santa Cruz after college. And that would be 10 years ago! Then after football, it’s usually a nap or I’ll catch coffee with someone. Then I never miss Halloran’s FTP show on FM 94/9. If an artist is playing that night, he tends to have them on air picking songs to play, which is really cool. And he plays a bunch of new stuff on FTP - lately he’s been playing Le Tigre’s TKO, which I really like. After FTP, I make myself some dinner and then get ready to head out for the Sunday swan song - which always starts out with BSC at the Sidebar and then tends to end at the Lamp.

This Sunday played out perfectly. I talked to Travis for a bit and then fell asleep. I was debating as to whether to go the Libertines show with him last night, but the Epicentre was the deal breaker. I really don't like to go to all ages show unless I *really* like the band. Both bands (Radio 4 and the Libertines) were on Halloran's FTP and they were lamenting the fact that the Epicentre had no bar.

Football was fun - I caught the last half of the morning games and stayed until halftime of the afternoon games. Ali was there rooting the Browns on - and we kept making rude comments about Jeff Garcia. I think he's doing a spray tan these days, he's not looking like a pasty No Cal anymore.

BSC at Sidebar was a little tame. DJ Drew and Heather were there, but that's it. And after doing Drew's nails, I was out and went to the Lamp. Russ was working and Boytoy met up with me. I sang No Doubt's "Simple Kind of Life" and Madonna's "Like A Virgin". I only sang "Like A Virgin" because I completed spaced out on how "What It Feels Like For A Girl" goes. Sigh. There was some chick in there who had just gotten married - still in her wedding dress and all. Just another night at the Lamp.

And that's it for me....

(I started this entry at 9am and it's two hours later since I've been in a meeting. Gotta get to work.)

Fag Hag, Shoe Whore, Foodie, Barfly

Foodie    Just a Girl    Social Butterfly

The title pretty much sums up my weekend so far.

Last night, I drove up to the OC to hang out with Greg and Rick. We went to the Elephant Bar in Tustin for dinner. I had a really fabulous shrimp salad and a martini. Then we headed to Long Beach to hang at Hamburger Mary’s. Well, it was lesbian night there, so Greg and Rick wanted to see boys, so we went to this place called the Silver Fox, which is a video bar. That was cool. Except the (shared) restroom didn’t have ass gaskets. Argh. Plus it smelled like someone got sweaty ass in there. Yuck. I left to drive home at 1, figuring I’d be home in time for Travis’ show. Oh no. Cal Trans had 3 lanes of the 5 blocked off near San Clemente. So it took me 45 minutes to drive 3 miles. Oh well. But I did get to talk to Travis and he played PJ Harvey for me, so all was good.

Then today, I went to do Saturday ritual with my mom. And I found the hottest shoes at Macy’s. Franco Sarto ankle boots with lacing in the back and a really cute heel and a pair of Naturalizer mid ankle boots that lace up in front and zip on the back. But I got a really good deal - only $128 for both pairs. Sweet.

Dinner was at Kira’s tonight. I made shark tacos for me, Kira, Matt, and Julius. They were soooo good. I love it when shark is plentiful, I tend to eat shark tacos all the time. And Kira, Matt, and Julius weren’t to into shark until they tasted it. Nice.

So after dinner and a couple of Pacifico’s, I headed to Lamp to meet Emily. I sang Madonna’s “Borderline”. And Russ did Squeeze’s “Tempted”, which is always good. We left at midnight as I really need to get some sleep after my long day yesterday. Tomorrow will be packed with more social stuff, so I need to catch a few winks.

Show me your…

 Random Tidbits

image

Note: This entry will remain on top until donations are closed on Sunday, October 10th.

So, there’s this thing called the Blogger Boobiethon. Basically, a bunch of people submitted boob shots (covered and uncovered) to help raise money. This year, we are raising money for Rock the Walk and for the Komen Breast Cancer Foundation . I say we because my boobies are on there. In all of their tattooed glory. But to see them, you have to donate $50 to the cause. Or else catch me in one of those moods when I want to flash them.

But, really, go donate whatever you can. Do it for the people living with AIDS. Do it for the the women (and men) that are going through the hell of chemo. Do it because all of us together can make a difference.

Update: And in the spirit of giving...the first one of my readers that donate $50 to the cause and let me know about it will receive something from their Amazon Wish list. Just let me know you donated by commenting here and once I verify on the Donations page, then I will have fun with your wish list.

Guys Night Out

 Social Butterfly

Last night was really random. I started off the evening at Second Wind as Z and Rhiannon were there in their Planned Parenthood “Stand Up for Choice!” gear handing out condoms and lube. Always a pleasure, let me tell you. But that got old after a beer, so I called Boytoy to see if he wanted to go to Lamp. It took me about three seconds to convince him to meet me there. Tee Hee.

So I get to Lamp and Armand was there. I hadn’t seen him since Pride, so we caught up a little. When Boytoy arrived, he didn’t see me at first so he started talking to Russ. And next thing I know, they come over and tell me that they are bailing to go to Shooterz for 80’s night. All right, I was game for that, so I drove us over there. And I run into this guy from high school who Carri and I call Trouble. Because that is exactly what he is. I have known him since 8th grade and always had a crush on him. But that’s another story. So Trouble and I hang for a bit and then we join Russ and Boytoy. And we hang there for a drink but Russ and Boytoy were restless and wanted to go “back where we belong”.

So back to the Lamp. And Tattoo Dude was there. Very cool. So we stayed there for the rest of the night. I sang Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide”. And I really wasn’t intending on staying all night, but hey, it’s the Lamp and the drinks were flowing courtesy of Tommy.

Definitely a good night. I love hanging out with all the boys. I get to talk about whatever with them - though our convos tend to steer towards partying, girls and sports. (We’re all jacked up about the NL West/Wildcard race. I am totally hoping that the Giants sweep the Dodgers because I really hate the Dodgers these days even they used to be my team when the O’Malley’s owned them. But the Dodgers have the jungle karma because Gagne was on Romey’s show last night. And I am totally all over the AL West, too. Go A’s!)

Okay, enough of that. I need to get to work. It’s gonna be a long day. Happy Friday!

Christy:

ugh, I agree about Pandora. Major suck. Sometimes I’ll listen to Last FM if I’m in the mood for a certain style or genre. They do an okay job, though not super awesome.

roger:

How did that translate into the rest of the day?

Cristy Westfall:

Dear Chick Rawker,
Thank you for taking our survey.  The purpose of these surveys are two-fold.....to find out what ALL listeners think about the music we play, along with songs that we think listeners might be interested in hearing on our station.  The songs on the list below are not necessarily in rotation on our radio station.  We have a lot of fun here and sometimes we have specialty weekends and features that songs on this list might or might not fit into.  I hope that you continue to take our surveys and give us your opinion because it helps us program our station to give listeners what they want.

Yes alternative music crosses over to the pop world, it always has and always will.  I think it’s great when an artist or group reaches this level.  They release there music and are labeled “Alternative” and then they become “Popular” and the masses want to hear them.  If managed correctly this will allow them to create and be more artistic with their music in the future.  For example NIN....yes “Closer” is a “Popular” song, but without it, would Trent Reznor have been able to create and work on the many projects he has that appeal to a “Music Connoisseur” like yourself?  We don’t know for sure but we can guess the answer is “Yes.”

There is a purpose and place for POP Music.  I hope that from now on you take this into consideration when you listen to and judge the formats that this type of music is featured on.

Thank you,
Cristy Westfall

@karmiclife:

These are the same things I have been thinking about for awhile now, starting when Chris left. Radio is still relevant and will be for a while. The other competition aside from online is satalitte radio. Many people listen through Sirius and XFM. It is all splintered. Partnerships, collaboration, engaging with fans are the way to go and survive. Hard core music fans like most of our crowd may end up left to scrounge for the good stuff. But really, is that so new?

[go]

hilary:

so sweet, lyn.

roger:

Word. I’d have to use different examples, but would say everything else exactly the same.
