I’ve joined a cult, thank you very much

 Weighing In

Yesterday, I saw someone who used to work for me. It had been awhile since we have seen each other (he works on a different floor now.) And he tells me “Hey, are you shrinking?” And I answered with my best comeback for weight loss compliments ever, “No, actually I joined a cult.” He gives me that puzzled look and I told him that I joined Weight Watchers and hence the “shrinkage”. I think that is going to be my standard reply to any compliments. (Because I am so great at taking compliments. NOT. )

So if anyone cares, after weigh-in this afternoon, I am down 2.6 lbs. from last week, for a total of 43.6 lbs since starting 20 weeks ago.

And now I don't feel guilty for taking a day off from my exercise routine yesterday to talk to Kazandra for hours. Though the alternate is going to the gym in the morning with the viejitas (previously mentioned here.) Which I am not down to do unless I have to, since, quite frankly, it sucks.

But I did go this morning, and now I am free to eat fish tacos and have a cerveza after work. smile

Just another night at the Lamp

 Social Butterfly

Sigh. What a night. It started out fine.  Joelle was already there when Emily (previously mentioned as the bartender at the Gathering) and I showed up. So we started the night off right with a round of Red-Headed Sluts and we were off. It was pretty dead, so karaoke was Russ/Joelle/Lyn for a bit. We all got to sing quite a few times. I love that Russ is starting the night with Squeeze’s “Tempted”. Joelle was awesome as usual. And I had to have Joelle and Ali do the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe”. It’s a sight to behold.

As the night progressed, Ali, Shaun, Kira, and Christiane showed up. There were also Chocolate Covered Cherries, Buttery Nipples, and Washington Apples to be had. And then the somewhere in there, the drama started.

Emily’s ex, Scott, showed up and then his new “thing” showed up and that was just lovely. Joelle and Ali cut their losses and went to Second Wind. I was all ready to drop Emily off at home and meet up with them. So I drive Emily home and she starts freaking out about leaving her car at the bar. Trust me, she was in no condition to drive. I told her I would go with her tomorrow to get it and she was having none of it. So we called Russ. And I asked him if he would drive Emily’s car home for her. And of course, he did. So I went back to the Lamp and Russ followed me to Emily’s and the day was saved. But by the time that was all done, it was past 2.30am and there was no more fun for me. Sigh.

Oh well. There’s always next week.

Personality Test

 Quiz Me

I am totally restless today. So I was trolling around and read mikey’s blog and had to take the test.

Wackiness: 70/100
Rationality: 50/100
Constructiveness: 44/100
Leadership: 60/100

You are a WEDL--Wacky Emotional Destructive Leader. This makes you an anarchist. You don’t give a damn. When push comes to shove, you just forget about it--it’s just not worth the heartache. What this means for others is that dealing with you can be aggravating, because they find they can’t get you motivated about things they care about. What this means for you is that you are happier, calmer, and saner then they are on their best days.

rawk on »

You are near-immune to criticism, and those who know you well acknowledge and respect that. You may come across as lazy, but the truth is that you find little to get worked up about. Regardless, you have slews of friends, because they are fascinated by your world view, jealous of your lifestyle, and drawn to the fact that you are hilarious to be around.

You are a pillar in a sea of hot-bloodedness. You have a sweet tooth.

****
Sounds about right, doesn't it?

Lamp Redux

 Social Butterfly

I didn’t end up going out last night. I didn’t get back from the gym and my 2.5 mile walk until after 8pm, so by the time I had dinner, it was late. I figured I would take a power nap since I had time before I was supposed to go out. But I didn’t wake up until Ryan called me around midnight. That’s cool, at least I got to watch Queer Eye. So it’s on for tonight. Heading to Lamp around 9 - be there or be lame.

Shake Your Groove Thang

 Rawking

All the hype you hear is true. Prince is back and has reclaimed his crown. I was a big Prince fan back in the day. The first single (yes, on vinyl) I ever bought was 1999. I think I have all of his albums up until the time he changed his name to the symbol.

rawk on »

So I have been reading about how great this new album is and how he has been incredible to see live. So I was pretty stoked to get hooked up with the CD on Sunday. The single “Musicology” is fonky like “Let’s Go Crazy” and “Kiss”. There are a few ballad type songs and they remind of stuff from “Sign O the Times” or “Diamonds and Pearls”. Kinda weird, for some reason, ever since I have been listening to this, I can get “Thieves from the Temple” out of my head. Like any other good Prince album, the music is dense and the lyrics are cool and you just want to groove to it.

Highlights: Musicology, Call My Name, If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life

Weekend Recap

 Social Butterfly

Whew...what a busy weekend it was. Even though I had a long weekend, I couldn’t get *too* crazy because I was on call for work. But I was still able to go out and be social, which is a good thing or I would be super cranky by now.

rawk on »

On Saturday night, after dinner at my parents' house, I rolled over to the Gathering for a martini. Then I went to the Second Wind to see Joelle and Ali. I was super tired and was home by 1am, and crashed out by 2.30.

On Sunday, I went shopping (new clothes, yay!) and then went to a BBQ. Had a couple of beers, then went to the Gathering again. Emily made me a dirty martini with a new kind of vodka - Hangar One. Apparently this vodka is made in an airport hangar in Alameda. Nice. Very good martini. Then I went to Lamp to sing - Madonna's "True Blue" and Fleetwood Mac's "Silver Springs". I wasn't at Lamp for too long. Sunday is usually BSC night but since it was a holiday, I intended to skip it. But then I was summoned by Ryan, so I bailed the Lamp for Sidebar. As soon as I got there, DJ Drew asked me what Jem song to play. It was a "Wish I" night. smile Heather from the 94/9 promotions staff hooked me up with the Prince "Musicology" cd (thanks to Ryan who let me have the CD while he settled for a new t-shirt). I listened to it all day yesterday, so I will give a full review later.

Yesterday I went to the Gathering (again) to have dinner and a martini. So why am I always there? Emily is just a really good bartender and one of my best friends, so it's a good default place to hang if I am feeling lazy about making plans. Dinner was good, martinis were excellent and then I called it a night.

Lots going on socially for this week. Tonight, I will be heading to Landlord Jim's for their new indie rock night. Then Lamp on Wednesday. And a few birthday celebrations later this week. Good thing I got some rest because it's going to be one of those weeks!

Back Talk

Christy:

ugh, I agree about Pandora. Major suck. Sometimes I’ll listen to Last FM if I’m in the mood for a certain style or genre. They do an okay job, though not super awesome.

[go]

roger:

How did that translate into the rest of the day?

[go]

Cristy Westfall:

Dear Chick Rawker,
Thank you for taking our survey.  The purpose of these surveys are two-fold.....to find out what ALL listeners think about the music we play, along with songs that we think listeners might be interested in hearing on our station.  The songs on the list below are not necessarily in rotation on our radio station.  We have a lot of fun here and sometimes we have specialty weekends and features that songs on this list might or might not fit into.  I hope that you continue to take our surveys and give us your opinion because it helps us program our station to give listeners what they want.

Yes alternative music crosses over to the pop world, it always has and always will.  I think it’s great when an artist or group reaches this level.  They release there music and are labeled “Alternative” and then they become “Popular” and the masses want to hear them.  If managed correctly this will allow them to create and be more artistic with their music in the future.  For example NIN....yes “Closer” is a “Popular” song, but without it, would Trent Reznor have been able to create and work on the many projects he has that appeal to a “Music Connoisseur” like yourself?  We don’t know for sure but we can guess the answer is “Yes.”

There is a purpose and place for POP Music.  I hope that from now on you take this into consideration when you listen to and judge the formats that this type of music is featured on.

Thank you,
Cristy Westfall

awesome letter * i really liked listening to him.  I may as well shoot my radio now * really great letter, seriously!

@karmiclife:

These are the same things I have been thinking about for awhile now, starting when Chris left. Radio is still relevant and will be for a while. The other competition aside from online is satalitte radio. Many people listen through Sirius and XFM. It is all splintered. Partnerships, collaboration, engaging with fans are the way to go and survive. Hard core music fans like most of our crowd may end up left to scrounge for the good stuff. But really, is that so new?

hilary:

so sweet, lyn.

Love these, especially the pre-dawn shot. That must have been an awesome experience.
