Airborne Toxic Event at HOB Dallas
Sometimes I really love my life. I’m in Dallas and it so happens that Airborne Toxic Event was playing at the HOB here tonight. I rolled down there and had no issues at their box office. (Plus I made some teenager’s day by giving them my extra ticket.) Woo hoo! They didn’t even make me sign for my photo pass. Very nice. I got there right as the first opener started (Electric Touch, I think?) and grabbed a Shiner and was all good.
I sat in the photo pit for the first two songs, but was having camera issues (dead batteries, no spares because I didn’t have my regular purse with me.) But that was okay, I got a few good ones - though they are grainier than I would like…
(Mikel and Anna during “Wishing Well")
(Mikel, Steven, Noah during “Papillon")
(Steven and Noah during “Papillon")
After the first two songs, I bailed the photo pit and watched the rest of the show on the rail on the side of the stage. Still a good spot and I got to concentrate on listening to the music instead of taking photos. Yay! They pretty much sound like you would expect from listening to their album, so the songs all sounded great. All of the band members have good stage presence - I have a tendency to just watch lead singers, but everyone was interesting to watch. I especially dug songs when Anna played her viola. And Noah played his bass with a violin bow a few times, which made a really interesting sound. They ended up playing the majority of their self-titled debut - I especially dug “Does This Mean You’re Moving On?” and of course, their stellar single “Sometime Around Midnight”.

I pretty much bailed after their set - though I did make it a point to say hi to Noah as I had sorta met him at their SD show. He remembered me, so that was cool. I’m glad I got the chance to see them. BTW, HOB Dallas is way nicer than ours in SD. I think I’ve said that before as I did catch a few good shows here last year (Deftones, BRMC).
Anyways, you really should check this band out if you haven’t already.
