Alrighty then. So check out the intersects. #1 and #2 are the same on both charts. They also share Seether (#5 on active and #8 on alt) and Three Days Grace (#3 on alt and #7 on active). That leaves us with 6 on either side. Of the 6 on the alt rock side, Finger Eleven shows up on the active rock chart at #12. Linkin Park “What I’ve Done” and White Stripes “Icky Thump” are on recurrents on the active rock charts. Which leaves us with Paramore (chick rawk), Jimmy at World (pussy emo - I say that with love) and Flyleaf (also a chick on lead vocals). Not surprising to me. On the active rock side, Kid Rock is on the alt charts at #11, Chevelle at #17, Puddle of Mudd #28, and Alter Bridge at 49. That leaves us with Sixx A.M. (yes, Nikki Sixx’s project that is entwined with his book “Heroin Diaries") and Hellyeah (the metal supagroup.) I also wanted to throw in three songs I’ve been watching on both sides of the chart - Against Me! “Thrash Unreal” is 16 on the alt charts and broke into the top 50 of the active charts at #49. Atreyu has been kicking ass on the active chart (#11) and is getting some airplay on the alt charts (25). And then there’s Avenged Sevenfold, with #38 on the alt charts and #21 on active. The point of all this is that there is a lot of similarity in playlists between active and alt rock stations. Which kinda explains the whole rivalry in SD between KIOZ, XTRA and KBZT. Same songs, same listeners, who tweaks their station enough to win the prize of the best ratings and the ad revenue? (Because it always comes down to money, you’re kidding yourself if you think otherwise.) So, yeah, I am hoping that things will get interesting around the radio world by the time I have my one month stand at home and can actually really listen. In the meantime, I will have to amuse myself with these geeky comparisons every week.
