Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem at Starlight Theatre KC
A good week to be in KC since the only place to be was the Arcade Fire/LCD Soundystem show tonight. (Though a bunch of people who are in town for the Nascar race on Sunday are staying at my hotel. But that’s a whole other story.....)
So I went to the show with Faith and her fiance. Faith has been a big Arcade Fire fan so it was awesome to go to the show with her. The venue in KC was cool. It’s an outdoor theatre that is usually used for plays and such. A perfect place for the spectacle we were about to witness. We got a round of Boulevard Wheats and found some seats in the second section and we were on.
LCD Soundsystem sounded great. There were definitely some fans dancing around as if Daft Punk were in their house. Win Butler came out during “North American Scum”, which James Murphy busted out in the middle of the set. There was lots more dancing going on until they ended their set with a good one - “NY I Love You”.
You knew it was going to be a show just looking at their set up. A light show and video. Oh and about ten people in the band. Good thing that there was a huge stage. They came out blazing, starting off with “Black Mirror” and “Keep The Car Running” from their latest release “Neon Bible”. A quick venture into “Neighborhood #2” and then it was one of my faves “No Cars Go.”
Regine took over vocals for a couple of songs, including one that Faith loved - “In The Backseat”.
They played a good long set, alternating between fan faves “Power Out” and “Lies” from their first album to the best of “Neon Bible”. “Intervention” anyone? They also played a Magnetic Fields cover - “Born on a Train.” At some point, Win jumped into the crowd and played guitar in the pit. Nothing like getting up close and personal with your fans. The crowd was loving every minute of the show. After “Lies”, they came back out for a two song encore. “Crown of Love” and “Wake Up” were a perfect way to end the night.
And I have to say, they have won me over. I never really got into their first album, but I love “Neon Bible”. Looks like I need to give “Funeral” another spin or two. And with that I am out....need some zzzzzzz’s.
P.S. Set list if you rawk on.
