EIAC Local Edition: Fing, Japanese Sunday and The Moviegoers
Thought I’d do a little prep for this weekend’s NXNP and review some local albums.
Artist: Fing
Album: Making Love With Fear
Recommended if you like: to rock.
From their press kit:
No press kit, I bought this one after seeing their awesome performance at HOB last month. But here’s some good press they received in 944:
The self described Disco House, Funk, and Experimental band knocked my socks off with their song ROCK THE HIPS! You can’t help but rock your body to their sound, which resembles a blend of Beck, jemeriqui (sic), Micky Avalon, and the Faint. These handsome bruts are bound to be a huge success with their unique balance of incredible vocals and amazing stage presence.
Standout Tracks: “Rock the Hips” “Don’t Talk”
Worth a second listen?: Definitely. I’m always a little leery of listening to a band’s album if they blew me away live. No disappointment here, though. It rocks you til the break of dawn....

NXNP show: The Office at 8pm
Artist: Japanese Sunday
Album: Tap Taps Light Out
Recommended if you like: Explosions in the Sky (lots of comparisons to them)
From their press kit:
Japanese Sunday employs shoegazer guitar-centric rock with dense vocal arrangements, emotionally wrought indie rock with thick guitars that finger their way through your body’s hair tickling each and every spot with spine tingling accuracy, impeccable. - Smother Magazine
(ed. note: good god that is some crappy writing)
Standout Tracks: “Tigers on Ships” “Eight O’Clock Robot”
Worth a second listen?: If you’re a guitar geek, you’ll love this.

NXNP Show: The Avalon at 8.15pm
Artist: The Moviegoers
Album: Or The Gun
Recommended if you like: the L.A. Silverlake band scene
From their press kit:
Indie rock with a traditional side, an experimental side, a semi-soft side and a medium-hard one. The Moviegoers is the band you might enjoy if you looked through all of your cd’s and you didn’t want to listen to any of them. Instead you wanted to listen to something that sounded a little like all of them, but recorded through less expensive microphones.
Standout Tracks: “Living Inside” “The Look on your Face”
Worth a second listen?: Yes - that description isn’t too far off. I did like the songs with the female vocalist a bit more. I think it kinda reminded me of the L.A. band - Let’s Go Sailing.

NXNP show: Whistle Stop at 8.55pm
