Grand Ole Party and Vampire Weekend at Casbah
My two night stand at home is already over and I’m headed to Dallas for the last time this year. I didn’t manage to make it to the show on Saturday (though if you saw me out you might have done a double take and not believed it was me as I was running around with a Daniel Boone-like coonskin cap with the tail to the side. Long story.) We ended up at Zombie instead where the first band’s lead singer whipped *it* out on stage and gave us a little side show we weren’t expecting. The rest of the night is a blur so enough with that.
So last night, we went to the GOP/Vampire Weekend show at the Casbah. It was sold out when we got there a little after 10, but I figured that would happen so I bought tix online the other day. It was super packed in there and after getting a beer we slithered around to the bar area on the floor and were able to catch Vampire Weekend’s set. I had grabbed all the tracks on hype and I was liking them enough. But their live set was a little blah.
But Grand Ole Party did not disappoint even though we discovered when Kristin spoke that she was sick. You really couldn’t tell when she was singing - her vocals sounded great. I can definitely tell the difference in their live show from before they were out with Rilo Kiley. They are more polished and Kristin’s vocals don’t get lost in the songs anymore. They did a bunch of my faves early on - “Red Rum Heart”, “I.N.S.A.N.E” and “Nasty Habits” really stood out. Okay, “Look Out Young Son” was pretty awesome too.
Alright, I need to get out of here to go to the airport. Catch you guys when I am in Dallas. (Grab the song in the listen section if you haven’t done so previously.)
