Great Northern and Robbers on High Street at Casbah
A good night to be at the Casbah. It wasn’t too crowded, but it wasn’t empty either. But that meant you could catch the bands inside or hang out near the door outside and still see what was going on inside. I was off the hook as far as photos were concerned since Rosey and Natalie were there and I knew they would cover the visuals. (I just took a few so I could write this post.)
Robbers on High Street were up first and they were as good as I remembered from the last time I saw them at Casbah opening for Ivy. They’ve got that jangly pop sensibility that I love. Definitely a good band to see live. I took the liberty of hanging outside during some of their set and I was able to talk to Great Northern’s drummer, Davey. Both bands were just in my other hood in Dallas and they did an in-store at Good Records, so I wanted to see how that went. We had a really nice convo about their tour and how it was nice to be back in SoCal getting some love since they had been out playing to 5 people at some shows.

And we did give them love. Set list first:

I don’t know what else I can say about Great Northern except that I dig on them. I don’t usually do well at “chill” shows but they are fun to watch. Everyone is just so expressive and they’ve got good dynamics on stage.
I wish I could be more descriptive this morning, but my post show debauchery is catching up with me. Sigh. I’m gonna quit while I am ahead. Catch you guys out tonight…..
