If I Were Me - This Week’s Shows
Super busy week of shows for me. Here’s the rundown:
Wednesday, 11/7: Robbers on High Street and Great Northern at Casbah
This is going to be a great show. You know I gotta love these guys, because I am giving up a Brand New show for this! Great Northern has really built up a following here. I know that has a lot to do with the continued radio love they’ve been getting on KBZT (especially on Big Sonic Chill.) Robbers on High Street aren’t slouchers either. One of the Dallas blogs I read compared them to Spoon and I never really heard that until I gave the record another spin. I can see the comparison, but they’re good in their own right. You’ll just have to check it for yourself.
Listen:
Robbers on High Street - The Ramp
Great Northern - Low is a Height
Thursday, 11/8: Brand New at SOMA
I’ve totally socially over-extended myself on Thursday, but there is no way I’m going to miss Jesse and crew at SOMA where I can be one with the crowd and sing lyrics like this…
Take me, take me back to your bed
I love you so much that it hurts my head
I don’t mind you under my skin
I’ll let the bad parts in, the bad parts in
Well you’re my favorite bird and when you sing
I really do wish that you’d wear my ring
No matter what they say, I am still the king
Now the storm is coming, the storm is coming in
Listen:
Brand New - Degausser
This show will let out early, so afterwards, I’m either gonna hit up The Hold Steady at Canes or Rosey’s Blogiversary party at the Ken. Plus, I have Friday off so I may just have to get it all in.
Friday: 11/9: Stars and Magnet at HOB
I don’t think I need to wax about the greatness that is Stars. If you haven’t picked up a copy of their latest “In Our Bedroom After the War”, you’re seriously missing out. But don’t think you should get to this show late. You have to check out Magnet who hail from Norway. If you like Sondre Lerche, then you’ll like Magnet.
Listen:
Stars - The Night Starts Here
Magnet - Lonely No More
Saturday, 11/10: FM 94/9’s 5th Anniversary Bash featuring The Hives, Feist and VHS or Beta
This is going to be the place to be on Saturday. Plus, you can’t miss the 94/9 DJs and their cover band. I heard they killed it in practice.
Listen:
The Hives - Tick Tick Boom
Feist - My Moon My Man
VHS or Beta - Can’t Believe A Single Word
If you don’t have a ticket to this show (sold out suckas), then you can hit one of these shows up:
Coheed and Cambria at SOMA
Of Montreal at UCSD Mandeville (I have a ticket for this if anyone wants it. Free for one lucky reader! e me if you want it.)
The Walkmen at Casbah
Listen:
Coheed and Cambria - The Running Free
Of Montreal - Disconnect the Dots
The Walkmen - Louisiana
Sunday, 11/11: Paramore at SOMA
I’ve been gushing about Hailey for what seems like forever but somehow I keep missing their shows. I could actually miss this one too because the show is sold out but I am going to head down there anyways to see if I can snag a ticket. (Too bad I am not nice enough to promo people at XTRA to get in that way.)
Listen:
Paramore - Hallelujah
