In Stores and On Radio
In stores 8/21:
Jeremy Enigk The Missing Link
This has some new material and then some live recordings of songs from last year’s release.
Galactic From The Corner To The Block
I haven’t bought a Galactic record in forever, but I figured I’d catch up since they will be at SCMX on Saturday. More on them later this week.
Minus The Bear Planet Of Ice
I’ve been trying to get into this because I loved Menos El Oso but it’s rough going. If you’ve never heard their previous stuff, this is probably a good place to start. Then you can go back and listen to Menos El Oso and do some head scratching like the rest of us.
The New Pornographers Challenger
These indie blogger nation faves are heading into San Diego for a show at HOB the same night as the White Stripes. Hmmm, what’s a hipster to do?
Rilo Kiley Under The Black Light
The cd jewel case is purple. Wonder if that glows under black light? I’ve hit this pretty hard and there are some gems but there is one real stinker - track 7 “Dejalo” where Jenny Lewis does her best Valley Girl espanol. That’s not good. Otherwise, I love “Moneymaker” and the title track. I’ll probably have a new favorite next week after it’s had some time to bounce around in my subconscious. Oh yeah, and as widely reported, you can listen to the whole album on their myspace.
Ryan Ferguson Only Trying to Help
I’d be lame if I didn’t mention this one. Especially since Ryan is from T-Town (Tierrasanta, for those not from the island in the hills.)
Impacting on radio this week:
The Bravery - Believe
I just cannot stand these guys on my radio.
Kid Rock - So Hott
So, Kid Rock on alt rock radio. Hmmm....
Klaxons - Golden Skans
I’ve seen this pop up on stations here and there.
Rilo Kiley - The Moneymaker
Major label debut means a push on radio. Might as well be this song.
The Used - Pretty Handsome Awkward
Better than the first single for sure.
Velvet Revolver - The Last Fight
They’ve got two big shows coming up in SoCal - KROQ’s L.A. Invasion and a show at Coors the next day with Alice in Chains and Sparta. Expect to hear more of them on your radio, especially in SoCal. If you still read magazines, there’s a good article in the Rolling Stone issue celebrating the 20th anniversary of GNR.
VHS Or Beta - Can’t Believe A Single Word
Lots of love for this in the radio programming world.
Voxtrot - Firecracker
I’m down for some Voxtrot on my radio.
