Inside Track Shocker

 Rawk Radio

This makes me really sad. I mean, I just did an interview with Scott Riggs last week so this comes as a shocker. Excerpts (in italics) from an email I received from Scott Riggs today.

After four amazing years at ROCK 105.3 FM San Diego, my DJ tenure and radio shows, The Inside Track and Guerilla Radio, will no longer be part of the ROCK 105.3 programming line-up. It wasn’t a decision against me or the shows but more to modify the Sunday night programming at ROCK so that it is more in line with the day-to-day programming of the station.

I am eternally grateful to ROCK 105.3 Program Director Shauna Moran-Brown for giving me the opportunity and freedom to program an Indie/Alt. show that was far outside the normal ROCK programming and letting me carry on for four years. This entire experience has really brought joy into my life and helped me love music and radio more than I ever knew I could...for that, I am grateful.

I also want to thank you for your support, kindness and patience with me throughout the years. I’ve really enjoyed being part of the San Diego Radio community and Indie music family for the past 15 years and hope that I can return soon and once again give a radio voice to such great music.

So, what’s next for me? One door closes and another opens...that’s what they say, right?  My first goal is to get the show back on the air in San Diego. I’ll be shopping The Inside Track to other radio stations here in town and I believe there is at least one or maybe two stations that might be interested.

This is a real setback for San Diego radio. I have said time and time again that The Inside Track was the only radio show that consistently showed the indie love.  I am crossing my fingers that his show lands somewhere soon. From speaking to him, I know he will not accept a situation where the integrity of his show is compromised, so let’s hope that the PD’s out there realize how the value of this show and let Scott remain true to his vision.

Back Talk

bhenskamunh:

It was about halfway through Regina Spektor’s Passover-eve show at the Williamsburg venue Warsaw when a loudmouth in the audience said something inappropriate at top volume. Better to not dignify the comment (sexist, lame) or its author (male, boorish) by committing it to print, but suffice it to say, it stank. Lingered there in the air for a moment as the crowd pondered how, or whether, to respond. Up in the balcony, members of Spektor’s family—including her grandfather, who’d never seen a proper show of hers before—were undoubtedly steaming, a combination of fury and frustration

Faith:

I heard an interview with her yesterday morning on NPR. She doesn’t sound anything like I expected, which kinda threw me off. But they played some bits of this new album, and I really, reeeaaaally wanna get it now!

I am so excited to see that you are giving this away!  I love Jeff Buckley, he has been my favorite for years and years. My favorite song from the Grace album is Lover You Should’ve Come Over, because the lyrics and the music is s haunting and beautiful. I even had an artist friend f mine custom paint shoes for me with Jeff’s face and lyrics from the song on them smile Email me if you want to see pics!

Lustifer:

The song that did it for me was…

Honeybear.

And of course Zero, that was nice.

Thank you for the set of songs, i am trying to recreate the concert for my bro, too bad he could not make it…

Laterz!!!

Lyn:

Lyn:

thanks guys. this is why i try not to post so late at night. i missed putting maps up and there was still another song i couldn’t figure out. sigh.

Chris:

Yeah, I think it was “Maps” right before she closed with “Zero”.  I remember because I heard someone do an awesome version of it at the Lamplighter later that night.

Zan:

I too am a huge fan of the Combat Baby days. Old World Underground remains one of my all time favorite albums after all these years. Even though they were supposed to be promoting Fantasies I wish they’d done at least one more song from Old World Underground.
I thought Emily was awesome and I loved watching her, but in comparison to Karen her energy seemed to wane a little. I also hated that she never took off her fucking sunglasses. Still though it was amazing to see them up close and personal!

Zan:

I was there last night too. I’m pretty sure maps was right before zero. i don’t know about the other ? though.

Natalie Kardos:

I’d love to get on the guest list to see them with the Constantines smile
