KBZT swaps Anya for Hilary?
I thought it was interesting that KBZT announced Hilary coming over because I couldn’t really imagine what spots she would fill in. But now it is all clear. Anya is stepping away from the mic. From an email to anyone signed up as an FM 94/9 insider:
It’s Anya, your friendly midday DJ here at FM94/9. I just wanted to give you all a heads up as to some of the things going behind the scenes here. I’m sure those of you who listen pretty regularly have noticed that I’ve been gone quite a bit. Some of you may know that I moonlight as an independent musician and have been working on the follow-up album to my debut album Miss Halfway. Most of this new record was produced here in San Diego by Brian Karscig from Louis XIV and two songs were recorded in Portland, OR by Britt Daniel from Spoon.
Anyway, it’s been a long time coming and a dream come true, but I finally got a record deal with a great little indie label started by Alexandra Patsavas (music supervisor for shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Gossip Girl). Chop Shop Records will be releasing the album this fall (most likely in November), and I’m thrilled beyond belief that schlepping across the country and playing music for the last 10 years has paid off.
The sad reality that comes with this great news is that it’s going to be virtually impossible to continue juggling things in the same way I’ve been doing over the last few years. Supporting the album will mean months of PR work, publicity, touring, touring and more touring. What this means to you is that you’re not going to be hearing me on the air as often as you have been—call it a leave of absence of sorts.
