San Diego is for Lovemakers
Somebody should have warned me it would be lipstick lesbian night at the Casbah, I would have dressed cuter. Teehee. No matter, good show at the Casbah tonight, starting with Death of a Party. They sounded very Faint-ish or even a bit like the Blood Brothers. Actually kinda right up my alley, so I enjoyed their set. Gareth, their lead singer, was the epitome of a front man and I always dig that.
So if you’re not hip to the Lovemakers, they are a dancy pants band from Oakland. (I loved their merch. One of the tees was inspired by the “Virginia is for Lovers” motto...."Oakland is for Lovemakers” anyone?) They were cool before the show, mingling with the crowd and selling their own merch. (Scott sold me their new EP and we had a nice convo talking about where they played while they were in TX) Lisa was out on the dance floor for Death of a Party as well.
By the time the Lovemakers came on at 11.15ish, the floor was pretty packed. But armed with my new camera, I got some good photos before it started to get too crazy with the dance dance. (All photos here.
Scott and Lisa are electric on stage. Lisa is so energetic it is easy to follow her lead and just dance along. Scott is all over the place and kinda in your face and that’s a good thing. I didn’t keep good track of the setlist because I was too busy dancing. But the back to back of “Prepare for the Fight” and “Hypnotized” seriously set everyone in dance mode and we grooved the rest of the night. Especially to “Shake That Ass”. The encore was the excellent “Save Me” from the new EP.
And now I must retire for the night. Big night tomorrow so I must get some zzzzzzzz’s.
