Lovemakers Shake It at the Casbah
Lovemakers.killed.it. Photos first…
We arrived pretty early for the show to check out Oslo – just curious about them. They were super loud (so much so that I had to bust out the earplugs) so we went out to the patio to smoke and pretty much stayed there until the Lovemakers went on. That’s not to say that any of the openers (Astra Heights and Buddy Akai also represented) were bad – I just wasn’t having any of it.
I was up front from the get go and stayed on Lisa’s side of the stage for photo ops. (I had plenty as you might be able to tell. View all photos here.) She didn’t really cut loose until the coat came off for “Prepare for the Fight”, but once that happened, it was *on*. Scott was a little more reserved. He kept his shirt on the whole time - what is up with that? (When I talked to him later, he told me that he had been sick. So probably a good idea to keep it on.)
The set list was tight and they played a few new songs that they will be recording soon. (Possibly with a big name producer, but since that’s not official, I won’t start the rumors here.) My favorite of the new ones was “Wanna Go Back”. It was so catchy that by the second time the chorus came around, I could sing along. They slowed it down a tad with “Save Me” but “Shake That Ass” got everyone moving until we hit full tilt at “Set Me Free”. A thoroughly enjoyable show.
My funny tidbit for the night – Halloran was there holding court in the back booth in the Atari Lounge. I couldn’t resist giving him shit about what he had said when I played their song on my coup. Regardless, he was a convert by the end of the night. He came by me with a copy of their EP and told me that he even bought it. Nice.
I did get to speak with Scott for a bit after the show. It sounds like there is a lot of good stuff going on for them. So jump on the bandwagon now since I’ll be telling you I told you so sooner than later.
