This Week’s New Tunes
Ah, finally. New music I actually want to write about....
In stores 1/22:
Cat Power Jukebox
Kind of “The Covers Record” part 2. Worth it for her version of “NY NY”.
Jack Penate Matinee
A little poppy. I’m guessing it will get some play on Triple A stations.
Jet Lag Gemini Fire The Cannons
This will appeal to the younger alt rock demographic. Soon to be on tour with labelmates, SD’s own Weatherbox.
Liam Finn I’ll Be Lightning
Yes, he’s Neil Finn’s son. Don’t hold it against him. Check out tracks on his myspace.
MGMT Oracular Spectacular
More on this in a separate post.
The Whigs Mission Control
You can listen to the full cd here.
Impacting on radio this week:
Ashes Divide - The Stone
This is a no brainer hit on active rock stations. This band is Billy Howerdel (A Perfect Circle) who played everything on the record except for drums (Josh Freese, who else could it be?) Listen to the single on myspace.
The Horrorpops - Thelma And Louise
This is definitely the most radio friendly song of theirs that I have ever heard. Check it on myspace.
Jack Penate - Spit At Stars
I think this song is fun.
Mike Doughty - 27 Jennifers
I don’t remember where I first heard this, but the voice sounded familiar, so I looked it up. None other than the lead singer from Soul Coughing. So this could definitely get some radio play. Listen here. (Kinda funny, his top 28 has, gasp! 27 Jennifers.)
Super Furry Animals - Neo Consumer
Old news for indie blogger nation. Would be a welcome add to the increasingly boring alt rock playlists.
