This Week in New Tunes
A lot of new tunes to keep Indie Blogger Nation on their A game.
In Stores 4/8:
Ashes Divide Keep Telling Myself It’s Alright
For all the Tool/Perfect Circle fans. The single, “The Stone” has done well on active rock stations.
The Breeders Mountain Battles
Lots of mixed reviews for this. But there’s definitely a fan base out there - ask anyone who saw them at SXSW.
Cloud Cult Feel Good Ghosts
Art rock at its finest. Check out some tunes on their myspace.
Colin Meloy Colin Meloy Sings Live!
Better known as the frontman for the Decemberists, Colin strikes out on his own.
The Duke Spirit Neptune
More on this in a separate post.
Eric Avery Help Wanted
Better known as Jane’s Addiction’s bassist, Avery strikes out on his own with a little help from some friends. (Garbage’s Shirley Manson, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea all make appearances on the album.) Listen to tracks here.
Meat Beat Manifesto Autoimmune
These industrial/dance rockers are still at it. Z-Trip collaborated on a few tracks. They’ll be at Canes on Sunday, 4/13 if you want to catch them.
Neva Dinova You May Already Be Dreaming
I’m intrigued by this Saddle Creek release. They will be touring in support of the album and rocking the Casbah on Wednesday, 5/28.
P.O.D. When Angels And Serpents Dance
Back with their “classic” line-up. Oh joy.
Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin Pershing
Indie Blogger Nation loves these guys. Check out their indie goodness at the Beauty Bar on Sunday, 5/11.
Tapes N’ Tapes Walk It Off
I hope that some of their live game translates on the album. I really enjoyed them live, but “the Loon” was kinda meh when just listening to it.
Impacting on radio this week:
You can grab all of these for a listen.
Jimmy Eat World - Let It Happen
I liked this one when I first got the album.
Phantom Planet - Do The Panic
This is going to sound great on the radio.
Radiohead - House Of Cards
I actually don’t like to hear Radiohead on the radio. I think they are much better appreciated when listening to the entire album.
Tapes N’ Tapes - Hang Them All
This is getting a huge push as the album comes out this week.
P.S. Bonus in the listen section is for my girl Faith. She loves some Arcade Fire and I thought this string quartet version of Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) was excellent.
The Vitamin String Quartet - Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)
