New In Stores and on the Radio
In Stores 6/3:
Disturbed Indestructible
Great, more fodder for the radio. Sigh.
The Futureheads This is Not The World
Over their sophomore slump, this UK indie fave is back. Listen to the entire album here.
Ladytron Velocifero
As I mentioned before, Alessandro Cortini (better known as a touring keyboardist for NIN) assisted in production. The album has been perfect for my dancy pants moods. After seeing them last night (review to follow), I think the album is less dark than their live show. Go figure. Grab Black Cat.
Gavin Rossdale Wanderlust
Think Mr. Stefani will do better as a solo artist? I’m guessing yes. His first solo single “Can’t Stop the World” is already the theme song to some show on FOX.
Robert Pollard Robert Pollard is Off to Business
The ever prolific Mr. Pollard is releasing this album on his own GBV label. Early reviews have been positive - if you consider being compared to ELO a good thing:
“legitimately conjures ELO at their high-gloss best.” - Spin
Grab “Gratification to Concrete here.
Ting Tings We Started Nothing
More on this release in a separate post.
Weezer The Red Album
Another “non-titled” Weezer album that happens to have a red cover this time, so everyone is calling it “The Red Album”. Does anyone care at this point? Well, I guess yes since their single “Pork and Beans” has been #1 on the alt rock charts four weeks and counting.
Impacting on radio:
(alt rock)
Jack Johnson - Hope
Wombats - Let’s Dance To Joy Division
(triple A)
Black Crowes - Wounded Bird
Charlatans UK - You Cross My Path
Raconteurs - Old Enough
Switchfoot - This Is Home
Watson Twins - How Am I To Be
Their album is coming out on 6/24. You can stream the song from their performance on KCRW here.
