Office, Tigercity and Via Audio at Casbah
I’ve been eagerly anticipating this show since it was first announced. Sometimes a girl just wants to dance the night away and this lineup practically insured that would happen.
So we got there in the middle of Via Audio’s set. They fit right into the vibe I was expecting. Totally dancy and a super energetic chick lead singer. Nicely done. The crowd really enjoyed their set and there was a lot of merch being purchased afterwards. Good for them.
Tigercity hit the stage soon after and I was all geeked up for some smooth falsetto from Bill and Joel’s general spasticness (is that a word? it is now.) They grooved through a tight set that hit all the sweet spots. I didn’t keep a set list because I was too busy dancing, but they played all of the songs from their new EP “Pretend Not to Love” plus “Red Lips” and a couple others. The crowd was into it and Via Audio was up in front with me dancing away. Of course I went crazy when they did “Other Girls”. Other standouts were “Darkwater” and the set ending “Are You Sensation” where Joel gets rid of the bass and gets his song on.
My sporadic photo taking yielded these gems:

While we were waiting for the set change, I was hoping that Office could pull off a trifecta of show goodness. Why did I even doubt? The band is just fantastic to watch. I’m usually all about watching the lead singer but I could not help but want to watch their kick ass drummer, Erica. And their percussion/synth player Jessica was all over the place (in a good way). Scott did the majority of the lead vocals, but there were also a couple of songs that Tom sang lead on.
They played a lot of their new album “A Night At The Ritz” and a bunch of new material like “Sticky Dew”. After “Had A Visit”, the band left the stage and I heckled them a bit “Oh come on, you guys have to play ‘Oh My’”. And of course, they came back on stage and did just that. Here’s the setlist:

After Office left the stage, we convened to the patio where there were a lot of cool convos going on. At some point during Office’s set, Halloran showed up, so I went to say hi to him. But we ended up talking to Tom from the Office for a bit. And then I talked to Bill from Tigercity for quite awhile. I gave him crap about not wearing his suit and he lamented on the woes of touring and not wanting to always wear the same suit. Perfectly understandable. We also talked about their previous stop here (opening for Imarobot at HOB) and other cool stuff. I really enjoyed talking to him and not just because it’s good blog fodder. He was just fun to talk to. They are playing SXSW so I am hoping to catch them there. If I didn’t have important stuff to do tonight that I just can’t blow off, I would totally drive to L.A. and catch these bands again at Spaceland. Le sigh.
