Playlist Comparison
It’s been a long time since I’ve done a playlist post. Mostly because doing them are time intensive and time is not something I have much of these days. I’m fighting off a cold, so I am hanging out and I figured I might as well spend it doing something productive. I’m comparing the regular suspects - KBZT, XTRA, KROQ, KNRK, and KITS (who gets the revolving open spot).
In the top 30 of all stations:
White Stripes - Icky Thump
Foo Fighters - The Pretender
In the top 30 of 4 of 5 stations:
Social Distortion - Far Behind (KBZT, XTRA, KROQ, KNRK)
Smashing Pumpkins - Tarantula (KBZT, KROQ, KNRK, KITS)
Interpol - Heinrich Maneuver (KBZT, XTRA, KNRK, KITS)
Linkin Park - Bleed It Out (KBZT, XTRA, KROQ, KITS)
Good for KNRK for staying away from the Linkin Park. They boycotted the new NIN as well.
KBZT:
13 on national charts
not your boring radio add:
Pinback - From Nothing to Nowhere
Gogol Bordello - Wonderlust King
Cold War Kids - Hospital Beds
Great Northern - Home
Feist - My Moon My Man
Interpol - Rest My Chemistry
XTRA:
17 on national charts
17 shared with KROQ
leading the pack with KROQ on these:
Paramore - Misery Business
Against Me! - Thrash Unreal
KROQ:
14 on national charts
stuff that I never want to hear on my radio:
Korn - Evolution
Linkin Park - Shadow of the Day
They have 3 LP songs in their top 30. Gah.
The one bright spot:
Hot Hot Heat - Let Me In
KNRK:
13 on national charts
still loving on the chicks:
Amy Winehouse - You Know I’m No Good
Amy Winehouse - Rehab
Regina Spektor - Rehad
Colbie Caillat - Bubbly
They were all over the Colbie Caillat before even Triple A radio picked her up.
KITS:
16 on national charts
leading the way with:
Smashing Pumpkins - That’s The Way (My Love Is)
So there you have it. Even though I haven’t done one of these posts in awhile, seems like the stations are all up to their regular tricks. I’m not the only one that thinks so, read this article on the lack of innovation going on in the radio industry, who seem to want to blame their lack of listeners to technology. The article makes some good points on how magazines have survived in the internet world and what radio should be doing. Highly recommended reading for my fellow radio geeks.
