Promo Hell - Part 3
I was feeling a bit masochistic today so here’s another pile of promos.
Artist: Billy Boy on Poison
Album: Sweet Mess (ep)
Recommended if you like: throwbacks to L.A. 80’s glam metal
From their press kit:
I actually got this from Ironwork’s awesome publicist without any press stuff. Oh, you know that Ironwork’s is Keifer Sutherland’s label, right?
Standout Tracks: “Saturday’s Child”, “Dirty Bomb”
Worth a second listen?: If you’re waxing nostagic for the 80’s L.A. scene.

Artist: The Black Crowes
Album: Warpaint
Recommended if you like: your favorite old blues-rock band making a comeback (though some will argue that they never really went away)
From their press kit:
Do they really need any press kits at this point? Probably not. I don’t have one in any case.
Standout Tracks: “Oh Josephine”, “Evergreen”
Worth a second listen?: If only to prep yourself for their headlining slot at Street Scene.
More info: official site
Listen: The making of “Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution”
Artist: Blowing Trees
Album: self-titled
Recommended if you like: TX pop-rock
From their press kit:
Not from their press kit, but close enough-
“Overall, “Blowing Trees” is a superb achievement in which songwriting skill, musical skill, musical arrangement and studio mixing combine to produce a hit. Atmospheric and gut wrenching from start to finish...” - Ultimate Guitar
Standout Tracks: “The Day The World Left Me”, “A Different Tune”
Worth a second listen?: I think this would grow on me if I was in one of those pop-rock moods.

Artist: Paddy Casey
Album: Addicted to Company (Part I)
Recommended if you like: singer-songwriters made for triple A radio
From their press kit:
“Who is Paddy Casey, I hear you ask? Well, he may not be well known on this side of the pond (yet), but this Dublin, Ireland, singer songwriter is about to change that. Addicted To Company is a great album, and one that given some radio time will rocket up the Billboard charts faster than an aegis missile shooting down dead spy satellites.” - via bloggernews
Standout Tracks: “You’ll Get By”, “City”
Worth a second listen?: Yep - even though there are definitely mellow songs on the album, there’s just enough rock to keep me interested - “City” and “Not Out To Get You” are especially good back to back.

Listen: Fear
Artist: Justin Nozuka
Album: holly
Recommended if you like: a little soul with your singer-songwriters
From their press kit:
“Blending soul, folk, pop and R&B into 11 tracks of ‘superior acoustic soul’ according to Q Magazine, Nozuka has already seen commercial success and critical praise in Europe and his native Canada. In a 4-star review the BBC raves that Nozuka ‘has created eleven impressive pieces… filled with understated melodies, minimal production and an interesting, sometimes dark take on songwriting.’ ”
Standout Tracks: “Be Back Soon”, “After Tonight”
Worth a second listen?: This is the kind of music that would be the perfect backdrop in a bar in NOLA. It’s mellow, but it definitely has some soul/funk to it.

Listen: After Tonight
Artist: Safetysuit
Album: Life Left To Go
Recommended if you like: radio-friendly rock
From their press kit:
“Their songs capture the grandeur and depth of U2, with an imaginative pop sensabilty at its core and a dizzying wall of guitars as it’s backdrop.”
Standout Tracks: “Someone Like You”, “Sometihng I Said”
Worth a second listen?: Their single “Someone Like You” for sure. I actually heard it on XM and was like “who is this?”. It’s definitely sing-along-in-the-car worthy.

Listen:
Someone Like You (qt)
Someone Like you (wm)
Alright. I’ll clear out the rest of the promos over the long weekend and am gonna vow to do a post like this once a week so I don’t get so behind.
