Radio in the Sky
When I fly home from Dallas, I usually get stuck on an MD80, but I have found a flight (#1429) on a 757 so that will be my flight of choice for now on. Flying on a 757 means entertainment options. And I was happy to see that the indie/alternative station was sponsored by Paste Magazine. Here’s the playlist (with my commentary in italics.)
Honey Honey - Little Toy Gun
You know I’m into this band, so it was good to have them start of the set with their poppy goodness.
George Stanford - My Own Worst Enemy
She & Him - Why Do You Let Me Stay Here
She & Him - Take It Back
Two She & Him songs are sure to suck people in.
What Made Milwaukee Famous - Sultan
Hearing this out of context just makes me feel like they are on the verge of breaking big.
All Time Low - Dear Maria, Count Me In
Of course, the 16 yr old in me loved this song.
The Cult - Fire Woman
An interesting “classic” alt rock song to put into the mix.
Eagle Seagull - I Don’t Know If People Have Hated Me, But I Have Hated People
This was the beginning of a group of artists/songs that I had no clue about.
Tulsa - Shaker
Jon Peter Lewis - Break the Silence
El Perro Del Mar - Glory To the World
AA Bondy - There’s a Reason
The Annuals - Sore
I think this is the first album cut that comes even close to what they sound like live.
Anna Ternheim - To Be Gone
Hayden - Where and When
Noa - Marching Band
Lisa Hannigan - Last Leaf
The OaKs - Two Calls (of Dietrich Bonhoeffer)
Cloud Cult - When Water Comes To Life
I liked this one. I should probably buy this album.
On The Surface - Spaces
Sharon Gosler - Shine On Me
The Watson Twins - How Am I to Be
I dug them on the Jenny Lewis record, but everything I hear from their forthcoming album is just meh.
Lush - Sweetness and Light
The other “classic” song in the set was a good one.
British Sea Power - Waving Flags
I really dug this album and always enjoy hearing songs from it on my radio (no, not terrestrial radio. Slacker Indie Hits of course...)
Kenna - Out Of Control (State of Emotion)
Interesting choice as this song really made its push on radio last summer.
Panic At the Disco - Nine In the Afternoon
Nothing wrong with a little Panic at the Disco.
Nada Surf - Weightless
This fit right in after PATD. Really.
The Gutter Twins - The Stations
I like anything with Mark Lanegan.
Shawn Mullins - All In My Head (Live From Paste)
Headlights - January (Live From Paste)
They stuck a couple of live songs from their Paste studio sessions at the end. Works for me.
They change selections every month, if I play my cards right, this will become a monthly feature.
