Radio Industry Best of 2007 Roundup
The year end “best of” lists have already started. Here’s a peep at some radio industry picks via All Access (with my comments in italics as usual).
All Access - Shawn Alexander (Alternative Editor)
Sloan - Never Hear The End Of It
Monster In The Machine - Butterfly Pinned
Amy Winehouse - Back To Black
Band Of Horses - Cease To Begin
Athlete - Beyond The Neighbourhood
This is a mixed bag.
AOL Radio Alternative - Pete Schiecke (Program Mgr.)
Against Me! - New Wave
Stars - In Our Bedroom After The War
Divine Heresy - Bleed The Fifth
Fujiya & Miyagi - Transparent Things
Atreyu - Lead Sails Paper Anchor
Two of my top picks are on this list.
Beggars Group & Matador Records - Jeremy Goldstein (Nat’l Dir./Radio Promotion)
Idlewild - Make Another World
Biffy Clyro - Puzzle
Bloc Party - A Weekend In The City
The Enemy - We’ll Live And Die In These Towns
Sigur Ros - Hvarf/Heim
I think you’ll be hearing more about Biffy Clyro in the future. They totally rawk.
Caroline/Astralwerks Records - Dave Lombardi (Dir./Radio Promotion)
Sloan - Never Hear The End Of It
LCD Soundsystem - Sound Of Silver
Shout Out Louds - Our Ill Wills
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Baby 81
1990s – Cookies
A lot of love for LCD Soundsystem in the blogosphere. While I love BRMC, I just don’t think this record really captures how the songs sound live. But maybe they are just always going to be one of those bands that are better live.
KBZT/San Diego, CA - Garett Michaels (PD)
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank
Kings of Leon - Because Of The Times
The Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
The White Stripes - Icky Thump
Garett doesn’t get too crazy but he gets points for picking Kings of Leon.
KDLD/Los Angeles, CA - Mark Sovel (MD)
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Justice - Cross
Great Northern - Trading Twilight For Daylight
Feist - The Reminder
I love that he gave it up for Great Northern.
KITS/San Francisco, CA - Aaron Axelsen (APD/MD)
Great Northern - Trading Twilight For Daylight
Kanye West - Graduation
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
M.I.A – Kala
Les Savy Fav - Let’s Stay Friends
More Great Northern! This is a good diverse round of picks.
KNDD/Seattle, WA – Lazlo (PD)
Amy Winehouse - Back To Black
Bright Eyes - Cassadaga
Coheed And Cambria - Running Free
The White Stripes - Icky Thump
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank
Coheed? That’s very surprising.
KNRK/Portland, OR - Mark Hamilton (PD)
The Shins - Wincing The Night Away
Just Jack - Overtones
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank
The Fratellis - Costello Music
I did dig that Fratellis album.
KRBZ/Kansas City, MO - Jason Ulanet (APD/MD)
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Radiohead - In Rainbows
The Good, The Bad, And The Queen (self-titled)
St. Vincent - Marry Me
Pinback - Autumn Of The Seraphs
Love for Pinback is always good.
KROQ/Los Angeles, CA - Lisa Worden (MD)
Brand New - The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me
Interpol - Our Love To Admire
Jimmy Eat World - Chase This Light
Tegan And Sara - The Con
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Not to split hairs, but the Brand New album came out last year. Can’t help but agree with the Jimmy Eat World and Tegan and Sara.
WAITT RADIO NETWORKS Modern Rock! – Polychronopolis (PD)
Ken Andrews - Secrets Of The Lost Satellite
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Baby 81
Eddie Vedder - Into The Wild
Queens Of The Stone Age - Era Vulgaris
The Fratellis - Costello Music
That Ken Andrews album was really underrated and overlooked.
XTRA-F (91X) – Capone (MD)
Against Me! - New Wave
Interpol - Our Love To Admire
Brand New - The Devil & God Are Raging Inside Me
Onerepublic - Dreaming Out Loud
The White Stripes - Icky Thump
I have to admit that Capone was all over the Against Me! from day one.
