SCMX 2007
Yesterday’s SCMX was a blast. We fully intended to make it down there early enough to see Galactic at 4.15, but were sidetracked by hitting a couple of bars on the way via the trolley. We had a couple at the Waterfront and then walked down to Princess Pub and had another pint plus a couple of shots (SoCo Amaretto Lime, baby.) By the time we got there, the buzz was in full affect and we just rode that wave for a bit until BRMC came on.
(Loving the new camera BTW.) So BRMC came out and played for a little over an hour. They started off with “Took Out A Loan” and meandered through a set that included lots of material from their new album. They didn’t disappoint their old school fans like me as they treated us with “Spread Your Love”, “Punk Song” and one of my personal favorites, “Stop”. They ended their set with “American X” (a 9+ minute song) that left us wanting for more. (Good thing they’ll be back in town in two weeks with Kings of Leon.) Full set list (though I missed a couple of songs) if you rawk on.
So after BRMC, we headed to the local stage for the Truckee Brothers. But I was starving so I went to get a sammich, which took forever. Met back up with everyone and really enjoyed dancing through DJ Z Trip’s set. Then it was back to the local stage for Scarlet Symphony.
If you didn’t know by now, I love these guys. I just think that Gary is such a commanding force on stage and I could watch him for days. I went up front and took some photos (including this one of Gary and a fan that kept coming on stage).
Good times. Then it was off to the main stage again for the Flaming Lips. The debate raged - would we get Wayne in the bubble? Answer? Why yes we would. I thought their set was a little uneven. The crowd was pretty casual and I’m not sure they fully appreciated what was going on. So Wayne was having a hard time getting the crowd to participate, especially when they did the “Yeah Yeah Yeah Song”. But they still put on a good show. The stripped down version of “Yoshimi” was a winner in my book. It was cool to hear everyone around me sing along. And the set ending “Do You Realize?” was perfect.
Getting out of there on the trolley wasn’t as much of a cluserf**k as I thought it would be. But there would be no after party for us. Instead we hit Denny’s and then called it a night.
P.S. View all the photos here.
