Show Spotlight - Langhorne Slim at the Casbah
Langhorne Slim and his band, The War Eagles will be playing at the Casbah on Tuesday 5/13. There has been no shortage of good press about LS:
“ . . . Langhorne Slim trades in big, countrified exaggerations, blowing up rural stereotypes to delirious proportions, howling so hard you can practically see the wheat bushels tumbling from his mouth.” performance must be seen to be believed”—Paste
“ . . . Langhorne Slim cooks up rickety countryish folk so endearing you might be surprised he was born north of the Mason –Dixon.”—Rolling Stone
“ . . . the mischievous demeanor of a young Beck, mixing bluegrass, blues stomps, and a playful sense of humor . . “—Spin
But I think the best endorsement comes from the man himself (written for the album release press):
I’m not sure that there’s any other kind, but the songs I write are love songs. Some are literal, about specific events, people and relationships in my life; a form of therapy, self-help for the flowers and the shit along the road of life. Others come from a place far more mysterious. Either way, I’m in it to capture the feeling, the truth of an emotion, changing only names and events to protect the innocent.
This collection of songs represents our most comfortable, cohesive and soul-shaking music to date. It has been a great pleasure for me working with Sam, Malachi and Paul on this. And after all the good, bad and not so pretty all I can say is—please enjoy.
Love and Peace,
Langhorne
The whole folky, singer-songwriter stuff doesn’t usually get me hooked, but I’m digging on the album for sure. Definitely excited to check him out tomorrow.

Kemado Records
P.S. Get there early because The Smart Brothers are opening. I caught them for a bit at ArtWalk and dug them. (Though I still haven’t listened to their cd that I bought. In the pile of stuff I should listen to, which is about 10 cds deep at this point.)
Other shows of note this week:
Thursday 5/15:
Rilo Kiley at Viejas
You know I am all over this. I’ve been rocking Under The Blacklight since it came out, but my love for them goes way back. (I’m still rocking that RK tee I bought when I first saw them in 2005. I really should retire it, but it’s my fave.)
Friday 5/16:
Eisley @ HOB
This band from TX got my attention with their poppy sound. Can’t wait to see them.
South @ Brick by Brick
If I didn’t already have plans to see Eisley, I’d be at this show. Their new album You Are Here has been out for a few weeks and has been a good listen thus far.
Sunday 5/18:
Murder by Death @ Belly Up
You should check this show out if you don’t already have tix to the Kooks @ HOB (sold out, suckers. Not that I could go since I will already be in San Jose). I saw them at SOMA Sidestage when their album In Bocca Al Lupo came out and was very impressed by their set. Their new album Red of Tooth and Claw may be a bit of a tough listen if you don’t know what to expect, but if you like that whole Southern Goth thing, you’ll dig it.
