Slacker’s Take on Alt Rock
Station #2 - Alternative. Also programmed by Scott Riggs.
(alternative – Tuesday 7/31, 6.30-7.30)
White Stripes – Icky Thump
Start with the number one song already.
My Chemical Romance – Welcome to the Black Parade
I would have been happier with something from “Three Cheers”.
Albert Hammond Jr. – 101
A good song that didn’t get enough airplay when it came out.
Dave Matthews – Stay (Wasting Time)
I can deal with some DMB sings (from Under the Table or Crash) but not this one. I skipped it.
Pete Yorn – For Us
I kinda thing Pete Yorn appeals more to that Triple A demographic.
Feist – My Moon My Man
Hmmm...I’d expect this on the Indie station. Good move.
Mika – Grace Kelly
This song is way fun.
Stone Temple Pilots – Unglued
Now here’s a good old alt rock song.
Silversun Pickups – Little Lover’s So Polite
Last year’s indie rock makes it big success story.
Incubus – Oil and Water (skip/banned)
Okay. I couldn’t listen to this. Not only did I skip it, I banned it.
Rock Kills Kid – Paralyzed
I thought this song was great, but the rest of the album? Not so much.
Propellerheads – Velvet Pants
A band I hadn’t heard before. This was a little dancy and reminded me of My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult.
Crowded House – Don’t Stop Now
New Crowded House is worth a listen.
Kaiser Chiefs – Ruby
This song was made for the radio.
La Rocca – This Life
This album was one of my favorites last year. It didn’t get much radio play (if any) so it was a welcome surprise to have it come up.
The Clash – Train in Vain
An alt gold fave.
The Gossip – Standing in the Way of Control
Now if only Beth Ditto would shut up and let her music speak for herself.
The Shins – Australia
This didn’t catch on as much as Phantom Limb.
A good hour overall. I knew I was going to have to use some skips. But hey, no Linkin Park. Thumbs up for that!
