SXSW 2008: Day Three Part II
Got to see a bunch of music at the Mess With Texas Party. The event was free and held in a park near the Capitol building. Cool venue and the organizers did a fairly good job. They had three stages and a bunch of cool bands (Yeasayer, Islands, and Breeders). There was also one band that we saw that was totally weird (Gil Mantera’s Party Dream. Let’s just say they are better suited to play in a dark gay or fetish bar. Not in the middle of a park in TX in the middle of day. Highlights from the Breeders set were the back to back of “Divine Hammer” and “Cannonball”. They also did a cover of the Beatles’ “Happiness is a Warm Gun.”
After MWTP, we headed back towards 6th Street. As we passed the Texas Rock Festival, the band loading out stopped us with “San Diego!”. Turns out it was Transfer and they has just finished their set. They told us that another SD band was playing down the street, so we headed that way (after some just-okay Tex-Mex.) The name of the band escapes me, but they were definitely more for the tween crowd - though I liked their keyboard driven stuff they played at the end.
I cut out after that because it was barely 11 and everything was getting really retarded. I am way too old and intolerant of drunken antics these days, so it was probably a good thing.
So yeah, heading back home via AUS then DFW. It will be nice to be back home after a week in TX. See you on Cali time…
