Tokyo Police Club at Beauty Bar
That title should say “Dappled Cities and Tokyo Police Club at Beauty Bar”, but I freaking missed Dappled Cities. How the hell did that happen? I got there at 10. freaking 30!!!! I know, doors at 9, but really, should any show start earlier than an hour after doors? Like ever???? Le sigh.
In any case, the floor was packed for Tokyo Police Club. Any time somebody tried to get by, I felt like I was dry humping the person in front of me. Enthusiastic crowd, lots of singing along, etc. They must have played some new material because there were songs I didn’t recognize (hear these on a Saddle Creek record sometime soon). After the show, the crowd dispersed, but the guys from Tokyo Police Club stuck around and talked to people, which is always nice.
I did see a few friends in the crowd and they all raved at how great Dappled Cities were. Which is cool, but makes me feel even worse that I missed it. But yeah, after our obligatory $20 on the tab, we got the hell out of there (I really don’t find anything cool about hearing Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up” unironically in a place some 20 years later.) Then it was Ken Club for us, where it was nice and quiet and where I got to try a shot I had never had before (Bazooka Joe - 99 Bananas, blue curacao, and Baileys. It smells and tastes like bubble gum). On our way out, we ran into Rosey and her peeps, which is always nice.
I’ve got two more days at home until I head out east to for a week, so tonight I shall be at the North Atlantic show and tomorrow I’m definitely hitting up the SD house Party to see Scarlet Symphony. Peace out kids and have a nice weekend!
