Well here I am…don’t know how to say this…only thing I know is awkward silence. — Saves The Day - Freakish

Chris Conley at HOB San Diego

I honestly didn’t even check who were the openers for the Dashboard tour. I kinda figured that I’ve never been to as Dashboard show without at least one amazing opener (true story, I first heard Brand New when they opened for D/C back in the day, plus I’ll never forget that amazing show with Augustana opening in KC). So when we got to the Troub on Thursday and I saw the Saves the Day merch, I pretty much squealed in delight. Chris Conley has been out doing solo acoustic stuff - what a perfect opener for D/C.

At the Troub show, Chris was playing requests from twitter, but for the SD show, he pulled the majority of songs from crowd requests. The SD crowd was full of Saves the Day fans so it made Chris’ set even more enjoyable. I hadn’t planned on keeping a set list, so I missed the first song, but here’s the rest…

Dying Day
Freakish
Sell My Old Clothes, I’m Off To Heaven
At Your Funeral
Rocks Tonic Juice Magic
My Sweet Fracture
Jessie & My Whetstone
You Vandal
Take Our Cars Now

The majority of the set was from Saves the Day’s earlier material, particularly their complilation album Ups and Downs: Early Recordings and B Sides. I really love the earlier stuff - “Freakish” is awesome and “You Vandal” and “Rocks Tonic Juice Magic” are a couple of my favorite songs from their Through Being Cool album. But the best part of the show was definitely “Jessie & My Whetstone” (the video from my previous post). You can’t beat a super fan who rawked at the song, a crowd who knew all the words and Chris Conley enjoying every moment of the love. It was one of those show moments that you’ll always remember.

Freakish - live at the Wonder Ballroom, Portland, OR

This was an awesome moment from last night’s show. Chris Conley had a fan come up and play “Jessie My Whetstone” while he sang. I’ll post more on Chris’ set later.
